ART AROUND TOWN
Tell Us How You Really Feel
Earlier this week, BOPA released a constituent survey to get feedback on Baltimore's arts & culture scene from you — the audiences and artists BOPA serves. We are conducting this survey as part of our Strategic Planning Process to ensure that our work reflects the needs and wants of the Baltimore community as it relates to arts and culture and your thoughts are invaluable.

The responses will be used to paint a broad picture of how community members experience arts and culture and ultimately inform how BOPA programs can best support that vision as we move forward. By providing a forum for people from diverse backgrounds to share their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing BOPA, we hope to more clearly align strategic priorities with community values moving forward.

We will be collecting responses through Tuesday, May 31, 2022. We encourage you to share your thoughts with us at the button below.

MICA GRAD STUDENT AWARDED STUDIO
Bromo Continues Its History of Supporting Artists
Every year, BOPA awards one MICA graduate student a free studio in the Bromo Arts Tower. This year’s winner is multi-disciplinary artist Mama Rashida Forman-Bey. She has worked for 30 years as an activist, theatre educator, and director, and has just begun to explore her talents with visual art — working with acrylic paint, assorted fibers, fabric, and found objects. Forman-Bey says she will use her time at Bromo to prepare for a cultural art exchange event featuring local artists living in Baltimore and artists living in Bagmoyo, Tanzania to be held in 2023.

“I want to walk in the footsteps of those great Indigenous ancestors; keeping the culture, telling the story, and companioning others in creating magical, life changing moments through the performing arts. In my work, I bring together community voices, stories, culture, history, knowledge and information through theatre, dance, music, and visual arts, to heal the spirit and inspire social change.” – Mama Rashida Forman-Bey
BOPA manages several iconic properties in Baltimore, including the Bromo Arts Tower. Your tax-deductible donation helps us to care for these facilities and leverage them to create more opportunities for local artists.
