Art News from Serena Barton

Dear Art-Lovers,

Summer is still in full swing and I now have time to relax after a whirlwind spring and summer of traveling and teaching. I have one "away" class left, on the beautiful Oregon Coast, which I'll tell you about below. I'll also tell you about classes I've scheduled for fall at my Portland OR studio. Finally, I am excited to let you know about a special offer for my 2017 oil and cold wax class in Tuscany!

Happy August!

Artful best wishes,

Serena

Come to Yachats in August!

Join me on the beauriful Oregon Coast at  Bloom! an artscape for two classes this month:

Papers Wabi-Sabi
Friday, August 27, 2016

You'll learn how to make your papers both strong and flexible for collage, book covers, and mixed media work. You'll find more information and images on my site. To register, contact sandymier@gmail.com.

Not Just a Pretty Face
Saturday, August 28, 2016

You will learn to paint fascinating and expressive portraits by working with the masters. You'll choose faces painted by great artists to work from, discovering your own style as you go.
We'll use Ceracolors paints and mediums. This new water-soluble wax paint allows you to paint in a variety of styles with stunning effects.
You'll leave class at the end of the day with several "studies" and at least one finished painting that you'll be thrilled to hang on the wall!

Fall Classes at my Portland Studio:

Introduction to Oil&Cold Wax Painting
Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25, 2016 10-4:30
You'll have a great time discovering the magic of oil and cold wax medium in this two day class. Making art with oil and cold wax involves a lot of experimentation and a willingness to set out without knowing where you're going to end up! You'll use a wide variety of texture tools like kitchen utensils, coffee sleeves, squeegees, and cheesecloth. You'll learn to add collage, oil bar marks, and to incise and scrape back. You'll explore composition and color as you apply the oil paint and medium to Arches Oil Paper, which needs no gesso. We'll work on a bunch of pieces at a time, so that you don't get bored watching paint dry. You'll leave with several exciting paintings.
