A Word from Mother Pat: It’s still Easter!
In the Easter season our lectionary readings remind us of Jesus’ appearances to the disciples after his resurrection. It is a reminder to us that Jesus still appears to us in the ordinary spaces of our lives. Those appearances may be in ways that we don’t readily recognize him.
I saw this poem by Angela Alaimo O’Donnell printed in the Christian Century Magazine April 6, 2022. It may give us something to consider and reflect on in this remaining season of Easter.
Christ sighting: Easter Monday
Christ comes, a knock on the door when I least expect him. Expresso in hand I pop open the screen door that sticks in every kind of weather. Peace be with you, he breathes as he brushes by, sniffing for toast, an egg, some fist. We eat our breakfast in the too-small nook, our four knees touching beneath the table. We find little to discuss, though lots has happened over the last two thousand years, disaster since he last appeared become our daily bread. His lined face says he knows what we don’t say. I ask him if this time he plans to stay.
Look for Christ in the midst of your day and take time to just sit with him. Mother Pat+

Warden's Corner
I have had many people come up to me these past weeks and say things like “You know we should….”. I have had to respond and say, actually we have people working on that right now. I thought I would give everyone a heads up on some of the behind-the-scenes activities St. Matthew's groups are currently planning:
|

A Celebration of the Life of The Reverend P. Douglas Coil "Fr. Doug" will be held next Saturday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. The service will also be livestreamed on St. Matthew's Facebook page.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. in the courtyard weather permitting. A luncheon reception in the parish hall will follow the service.
If you would like to bring something for the reception, or can help during or after the event, please sign up at this link: Father Doug's Funeral Reception

MAY FOOD DRIVE FOR
SOUTHEAST GWINNETT CO-OP
May is the month St. Matthew’s holds a special food drive for the Southeast Gwinnett CO-OP. Many families with children experience food insecurity during the summer months due to the suspension of school breakfast and lunch programs. The Co-op allows these families to come twice a month during the summer months for food distribution. Help the Co-op meet these increased demands by donating some of their most needed items.
The Outreach Committee will have donation bags with an attached list of the CO-OP’s most needed items available after each service during the month of May.
Donation bags with the blue list are for you to pass out to your neighbors. It is suggested you pass out those bags to a few of your neighbors one week, then collect the bags the following week with date and time of your choosing.
Please return all donated items to the collection barrels outside the Parish Hall
by Sunday, May 29th.
Most Needed Items:
Canned and Grain Items:
Fruits (especially pineapple), Vegetables, Tuna, Chicken, and Soup (no cream of condensed), Oatmeal, Grits, Cereal, Rice, Pasta
Personal Care and Household Items:
Shampoo/conditioner, Soap, Toothpaste, Dish and Laundry Detergent, Paper Towels and Toilet Paper, Deodorant, Feminine Products, Diapers and Pull-ups

Southeast Gwinnett Cooperative Ministries
Helping Ukraine Refugees
The co-op is helping a small Russian-speaking church sponsor 60 Ukranian refugee families. The following items are particularly needed:
-Baby diapers size 2-5
-Feminine hygiene products
-Walmart gift cards
-Uber gift cards (for future use when they are comfortable with the lay of the land and hopefully can look for employment)
-Ross gift cards (for clothing)
-Laundry Detergent
-Male/Female Deodorant
-Shampoo/Conditioner
-Toothbrushes/Toothpaste
-Toilet Paper
Please mark your donation “refugee families.” You may drop your items off at the co-op or at Grayson City Hall. (because they are awesome and good to us)
Remember, this is over and above what the co-op would usually need. Please dig deep, provide for these precious souls, and continue to undergird the Co-op during this time of high demand. Thank you!!

Sunday Breakfast is BACK! Which Sunday would you like to help serve breakfast? Ministry groups, committees, and individuals are invited to sign up for any Sunday. For more information on this ministry, contact Trisha Voiles. Breakfast doesn't have to be an elaborate affair; a simple continental style meal is perfectly fine and a huge help to busy families on a Sunday morning.
