Amy Doty. (Owner):
Amy Doty started Frame of Mind in 2014 and has grown the business to be an art hub in Missoula, Montana. Amy has nearly 20 years of experience custom framing and designing in multiple states and for high end customers such as Nike, Adidas, Intel, Beaver Mustards, and much more. Early in her career, Amy interned as a custom framer with Maria Mackovjak, a previous head framer of the Chicago Art Museum. Under that guidance, Amy learned professional framing techniques and design skills essential to tackling even the most challenging projects. She has continued to build on that foundation with training in archival framing, framing history, and innovative design concepts from leaders in the field throughout her career.
A graduate of The Northwest College of Art and Design in Poulsbo, Wa, Amy received a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications with an emphasis on Fine art and Photography. She was taught under professionals in illustration, animation, painting, and more. She furthered her knowledge of the art world as an art gallery assistant for The Monte Dolack Gallery in Missoula, Montana in 2006. Amy contributed as a custom framer and assisted in sales and education of the full Monte Dolack collection, which is proving invaluable as she manages sales for the full collection of Monte Dolack fine art.

Amy's knowledge of art supplies comes from a lifetime of art-making and creative pursuits, as well as her degree, where as part of her bachelor’s program, she learned and experimented in all mediums of art. Her classes included Design/Typography and Color Theory by designer Troy Johnson; illustration by infamous Magic the gathering artists Mark Tedin and Amy Weber, Painting technique by Seattle artist Michael Otterson, as well as classes on photography, animation, life drawing, sculpture and film.

Amy’s hard work and dedication to art and creativity, both her own and others, allowed Frame of Mind to become a staple for artists in Missoula. As a reflection of her values, the business will always be a place for artists to create, inspire, educate, and grow.

Patrick Dryz (Manager):
Patrick is no stranger to the art supplies trade. He spent four years in the Art Supplies department at the UM Bookstore and is excited to put that experience to use at a locally owned business. Patrick is inspired by both the stories of professional artists and by helping those who are just starting out. Learning and inspiration are exactly the things that drew him to Frame of Mind. Also artisan peanut butter.
Patrick is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He moved to Missoula in 2016 to hike, bike, and camp amidst the natural wonders of Western Montana. Patrick has been drawing and painting since childhood, with a strange and inexplicable aptitude for dragons, monsters, and all manner of fantastic creatures. Favorite artists include Salvador Dali, Brom, Brian Froud, and Frank Frazetta. His favorite mediums are graphite, charcoal, and ink, but he has recently embraced acrylics. He holds a two-year degree in Fine Art from Tulsa Community College and is currently attending the University of Montana. Current studies include digital art, animation, game design, and filmmaking. Patrick is also an avid guitarist and has formal training in piano and music theory. When not making art or music, he enjoys reading history, working out, and ogling classic cars. Patrick is the proud father of a beautiful daughter.

Shannon Brodie:
Who is Shannon? She herself has been trying to figure that out for over 20 years. However, currently she works as a shop clerk in Frame of Mind’s newest expansion, the art supply store. With years of retail and service experience, and roots firmly planted in Missoula since 1997, she makes for the perfect addition to the team.
She spends most of her time creating several different types of art, road-tripping around Montana and neighboring states, along with frequenting nearby breweries. While she primarily puts her skills to use in the art supply store, lately she has been helping around the frame shop and learning new skills daily.

Lily Osborne:
Hi I’m Lily! I am currently a sophomore at Hellgate High School, and I love baking. Nature is my happy place so anything outside and I’m in, I often get my inspiration while wondering through the forest. I enjoy all forms of art and I like writing music in my free time. When making art I will use anything I can get my hands on; mixed media is my favorite! I really enjoy making and carving prints as well. Sculptures impress me and painting scares me, but I will try anything once. I like incorporating art into my cooking and baking from time to time and my pies always end up looking pretty cool. I’m not much of marker artist but looking at all of the makers we have in their perfect color coordinated spots is incredibly satisfying.

Lydia Schmidt:
Lydia Schmidt studied Painting and Conservation/Restoration at the
Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. She has served as
assistant curator of exhibitions with the National Railway Company of Belgium, and has been Conservation Lead for government archival
projects in Belgium and the United States. Lydia is an enthusiastic member of several GLAM professional organizations, including AAS, AAM, and ICOM. She has published and lectured on subjects ranging
from the history of art forgery to medieval supply chain management. She enjoys using her arcane knowledge about strange materials (and regular knowledge about normal materials) to help customers at
Frame of Mind.  When not selling art supplies, Lydia teaches wine
tasting, and enjoys disco, long division, and fly fishing.

Jace Anderson:
Jace Anderson was raised to believe that creativity is the most important part of being human. Jace knows that we are all the makers of our lives and that it is not about what we do but how we do what we do that really matters. As a life-long student of artistic self-expression, Jace is excited to share the creative journey with you as we grow into who we will become. Our unique classes aim to bring together like-minded creators in honor and support of community, inspiration, artistic growth, and learning as individual makers. Jace’s overall goal is to live as an example as best as can be by acting as a catalyst for positive change, fearless imagination, and profound self-discovery.

Jace’s greatest accomplishment has been traveling the country on wheels while designing a deck of tarot cards, honing an artistic craft, and writing two books on spirituality. When they are not instructing a class, you will find Jace working in sketchbooks and with oil paints, reading and writing about enlightenment, spending time exploring nature, and eating pizza.
