The year is winding down, but we still have many exciting events for you to enjoy here at the Central Library! Music, dance, films, a new art exhibit...and don't forget, you can browse many additions to our new books section on the 1st & 8th floors while you're here!

The Hausmann Quartet Presents: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

San Diego's highly acclaimed Hausmann Quartet will perform a score written for this classic film by California composer and pianist Stephen Prutsman!

Fall 2023 Concert Series: Duo 彩 AYA

Rachel Woolf, flute

Makana Jimbu, marimba 

“Cycles”


Woolf and Jimbu's performance will highlight contemporary works for marimba and flute by Gareth Farr, Evan Williams, Fumihiro Ono, Miriama Young, and more.

Swing Dance Under the Dome

Monday, November 6 | 6:00pm

9th Floor Shiley Events Suite


Monday's Swing Dance program will feature live music by CHICKENBONE SLIM & THE BISCUITS!


Swing Dancing San Diego will lead a free introductory lesson and host a rooftop dance under the Dome. Great fun, great music – and exercise at the same time!

Community Concerts

Community Concerts is our advanced student/adult amateur series coordinated in partnership with local music organizations. We're pleased to announce three additional programs for you this fall and winter!


San Diego Youth Symphony Concerto Competition

Tuesday, November 14 | 6:00pm


The final round of the SDYS concerto competition (for musicians 18 & under) will take place at the Central Library! Finalists will perform for the audience and a panel of judges, and the winner will be announced at the conclusion of the concert.


Save the Dates! Don't miss the annual end-of-quarter concert by college and graduate students at SDSU's School of Music and Dance on December 12th, and a program with Villa Musica's Community Ensembles on January 28th!

Grab some friends and join us for some nerdy bar trivia with the San Diego Public Library! Put your knowledge of random factoids to the test and compete for prizes that go beyond mere bragging rights while enjoying the food, drinks, and cozy atmosphere of Storyhouse Spirits. The bar is located just across the street from the Central Library, and we will be on the second floor.
