Dear explorers,
We had a great time exploring Graysdale Park and the Scotia Barrens with many of you! There is one more chance to join us for this adventure this evening (Friday, July 2). We'll meet at 6 p.m. Graysdale Park in Port Matilda, learn a few map-reading and orienteering skills from a local expert, then head out on a 2-mile hike through into State Game Lands 176 to Ten Acre Pond as we learn about the history of Scotia and the ecological significance of the Scotia Barrens.
Where are we exploring next?
Beginning Sunday, July 4, we'll be exploring the many murals, sculptures, and functional art pieces throughout downtown State College. Art and the outdoors are proven to reduce a person’s stress and boost their creativity, and a stroll through downtown is an ideal way to benefit from both while appreciating the many artists whose work publicly expresses the distinct characteristics of our region.
There are approximately forty works of art that help tell the story of the town through vibrant colors and shapes full of meaning and history, so you can truly make a day of it!
Do you have any recommendations for fully enjoying this adventure?
Even if you have been downtown hundreds of times before, walking through this massive outdoor museum solely to admire artwork can offer a fresh perspective on works you’ve been passing by for years. Plan to take it slow so you can observe details in the art differently than you would if you were shopping or dining downtown.
When and where do I meet to join the fun?
Guided: On Wednesday, July 7 at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and Friday, July 9 at 6 p.m., guided walking tours will be offered. See full event details below.
Do I need to register and is there a cost to participate?
Unlike many museums, these events and all Centred Outdoors events are free and open to the public. Registration is optional, but not required.
We hope to see you this week, and hope you have a great 4th of July weekend!
Thanks,
Dan Trew, Adventure Coordinator
