Heads up! Registration for our 2019/2020 season opens to the public on Sunday, June 16. Our 2019/2020 Program Guide will be available online by the end of May and in print at the centre by June 16.
Returning Sep-Jun students are provided with an opportunity to register prior to the public registration opening. If you are a returning Sep-June student, you will receive an email today indicating the dates you may re-register for your class or lesson (make sure we have your correct email on file!).
Otherwise, we have lots going on this month at Place des Arts, so read on!

Come Celebrate our 2019 Scholarship Winners!
Awards Gala, May 4 from 7:30 - 9:00 pm
Congratulations to the 10 talented and dedicated students who have received scholarships this year!
Please join us to celebrate the students' achievements at our annual Scholarship Awards Gala on Saturday, May 4. Several of our music scholarship recipients will perform for you, and the artwork of our two visual arts winners will be on display.

Youth Arts Council invites teens ages 13 to 17 (or 18 if still in grade 12) to
Art After Dark: Galaxy Edition! At this free night of the arts, you and your friends can explore your artistic and creative interests through a variety of casual, galaxy-themed arts activities:
- Slime Making
- Constellation Stencils
- Hip Hop Dance
In addition to making art, find your way out of an
escape room and enjoy
free snacks, drinks and music. Come spend your Saturday night chilling with your squad at

View Three New Exhibitions This Month
Opening reception Friday, May 3 | 7:00 - 9:00 pm
Drop by the opening reception for three new exhibitions: Blending Tradition and Innovation, a group show by the Fraser Valley Chapter of The Federation of Canadian Artists; My Mother's Home, family portraits by Rita Hernandez and Jennifer Sarker; and Connections, watercolour and ink works by Mary Kate Woodward. The exhibitions will be on display until June 1. Come and enjoy fine art, inspiration and a glass of wine!

CYT Presents Dear Edwina Jr.
Two all-ages performances on Saturday, June 1
Our Coquitlam Youth Theatre Company, a performance training company for ages 13 - 17, is busy rehearsing their big year-end show, Dear Edwina Jr. They're excited to perform two, all-ages shows on Saturday, June 1 at 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm at the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody.
Dear Edwina Jr. is a heartwarming musical about the joys of growing up, from the creators of Junie B. Jones, The Musical. Written in a show-within-a-show format, Dear Edwina Jr. is the perfect girl power musical for a new generation.

Customer Appreciation Week

We appreciate you; we really do! We want to thank all our current customers* for your support of Place des Arts this season, so we're holding our annual customer appreciation week this month.

Call for Summer Volunteers
Come help us out at our summer camps!
Do you love the arts and working with kids? We have summer volunteer opportunities!
Come and help us out with our
Summer Fun! and
ArtReach camps this July and August. We're currently accepting applications from new volunteers and asking interested current volunteers to let us know your availability for summer.
Our summer camps are a great way for school students (ages 15+) to complete required volunteer hours. Adults are welcome to apply as well.
Along with regular camp volunteers, we are also seeking a few people for a specialized volunteer position as a
Summer Fun! Student Support Volunteer.

Victoria Day Hours
Centre closed Monday, May 20
The Victoria Day long weekend is coming up on May 20 and, as with all stat holidays, Place des Arts will be closed. Our regular operating hours resume on Tuesday, May 21.

Family Fun Day at Place Maillardville

Our friends at Place Maillardville,
1200 Cartier Avenue, Coquitlam, are hosting a
Family Fun Day on May 25th. With performances by
Bobs & Lolo and Denis Leclerc, raffle draws and a scavenger hunt, it promises to be a great event for all ages. We'll be there with an arts activity to engage you and your kids!

Opus Outdoor Painting Challenge
Sunday, May 26 10:00 am -5:00 pm
Opus Art Supplies is holding their 8th annual Opus Outdoor Painting Challenge this month, and the Coquitlam event will take place on the grounds here at Place des Arts!
Opus invites folks of all ages and levels of skill to share their enthusiasm for creativity with their community of artists and neighbours at this fun event.
