"The 50th Annual Mayor's Business Awards not only highlights the incredible work being done by Baltimore's rich tapestry of small business and nonprofits, but also reinforces the importance of community engagement and investment in our city's future", said GBC President Mark Anthony Thomas. "We celebrate those who are at the forefront of the transformative change and who inspire others to contribute to the progress of the Baltimore region."

Programming

Art with a Heart students had a great month embracing the season and working with a multitude of art mediums. From vibrant autumn images to creative math-inspired (shapes = geometry) recycled art, the students in Art with a Heart classes truly outdid themselves this November. Whether they were in elementary school or older adults, each student brought their unique vision and skills to their projects. The younger students practiced their fine motor skills, using scissors to cut shapes and painting, while older students enjoyed using colorful oil pastels and watercolors reflective of the season in their creative process.

Community Art and Service

This month was highlighted by Art with a Heart's annual attendance at Johns Hopkins' FLI Day celebration. FLI Day acknowledges the perseverance of first-generation and low-income students pursuing higher education. Students decorated more than 100 wooden shims to be assembled into a beautiful mirror for their Student Success Center.

Art with a Heart also facilitated community art at the The Green School of Baltimore's annual Chili Jamboree! Elementary students and community members turned hubcaps into colorful dynamic flowers with paint and mosaic tiles. These flowers will adorn the school's exterior and include ceramic leaves and butterflies that were also created during the event.

Mercy Hospital's Cancer Care team enjoyed working on the Heat It to Beat It Anniversary Mosaic. Heat It to Beat It is an annual patient-led event that raises awareness for complex abdominal cancers. Art with a Heart is honored to help the community commemorate their 15 years of healing and hope with a beautiful mosaic.

And finally, as we close out the month, the team is excited to get to work on a large scale mural for T. Rowe Price, evidenced by the photo of our Artist in Residence, Yulia Hanansen stretched out on the mock-up for scale! More in-progress photos to come!

Art of Leadership

Art of Leadership Session 3 took place on November 3 and included a screening of the Charm City documentary followed by a panel discussion with Ms. Dee and Clayton Guyton ("Mr. C"), founder of the Rose Street Community Center, along with Justin Fenton, an investigative reporter for the Baltimore Banner who wrote the book, "We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption," which was released by Random House in 2021 and became an HBO miniseries. Topics covered during the impactful discussion included politics, community service, media, misinformation, and dedication to a cause.
