About the historic Salmagundi Club in NYC (www.salmagundi.org)
The Salm agundi Club is located at 47 Fifth Avenue (off of East 11th Street), a few blocks away from the Washington Square Arch, designed by one of its members, architect Stanford White. Founded in 1871, Salmagundi is one of the oldest art organizations in the United States. Housed in an historic brownstone mansion in  Greenwich Village, it includes three art galleries, a library,  an elegant period parlor, restaurant and bar area with pool tables. As you take a tour around this historic building, you instantly feel a connection to Old New York - even the library is frequently the site for movies and commercials that need that vintage atmosphere personified. Its recently renovated main gallery is a spectac ular venue for all of Salmagundi's exhibitions.
Salmagundi owns a collection of over 1,500 works of art spanning its 140 year history and has a membership of nearly 850 artists and patrons. Its members have included important American artists such as William Merritt Chase, Louis Comfort Tiffany, N.C. Wyeth, Thomas Moran and Childe Hassam.
