Construction Industry News - JUNE 2019
DO YOU KNOW: The added Challenges relating to Mid/High Rise oceanfront property remodels?

If you are a property manager or condo unit owner in a mid to high rise building and considering a remodel project, this article is for you.

Some examples of these challenges include but are not limited to: Ingress-Egress access, Limited construction employee parking, Limited space (affecting material storing both existing items such as furniture / wall art and new building materials), Permitting issues, Limited construction hours both daily and weekends, plumbing relocation affecting more than one condo owner, dust and odors during Lobby and Common Area remodels, Buildings without Service Elevators, Board communication weekly meetings or even storm delays in the middle of a project? The list does go on and on, each carrying an added cost to both client and contractor.

Does this list seem challenging? You can keep it simple and choose SR Construction Services as the General Contractor for your project. SRCS has a long, successful track record of navigating these and other potential pitfalls within occupied or what we call like to call 'Living Breathing Buildings' where these factors need to be taken in consideration from the onset of planning your remodel project and following through during the important close out process and turnover through.

SR Construction Services Spotlight
Woody Lewis: Purchasing & Logistics Manager

Woody Lewis, who also holds a general contractor & FL home inspector licenses, occupies one of the most important positions at SR Construction Services for both you, as the client and internally within our company. The unique logistic manager position not only transcends the numbers but makes a direct impact in the numbers by ensuring an 'on time and on budget' successful project.

So what does Woody do? He is responsible for all aspects of the logistics supply chain, development and optimization of site logistics solutions to meet the needs of the project.

I have ESP-N on cable so I know what you are thinking.... What does the job title even mean?

In English, when a client correctly chooses SR Construction Services as general contractor for their project, Woody is assigned to take care of purchasing deliverable items: let's use electrical fixture packages chosen by Client/Architect as an example of the numerous items involved in any project. Not only does Woody check availability, UL code compatibility, crosschecking architectural plans for errors, ensures competitive pricing from vendors and guarantees delivery scheduled exactly when the construction critical path calls for items to be installed by Superintendent / Project Manager.

Imagine receiving any custom fixture, having that fixture package arrive with onsite crews scheduled to perform installation only to find out they are the wrong fixtures! Delays, delays, delays costing everyone time and money.

SR Construction Services recognizes the importance of communication throughout the commercial construction process. In addition to the assigned Project Manager sending weekly emails outlining the weeks progress, photos and upcoming schedule, we also hold weekly OAC meetings (owner, architect, client) that Woody attends to keep in tune with any 'changes' in materials or scheduling that may occur. Woody will then contact vendors for availability and notify them of any changes to product and/or delivery timing.

This is just another benefit that sets SR Construction apart from the rest. We are not an Owner Operator which encompasses most of the general contractors within the state. On projects ranging from $300,000 to $10M, having a dedicated position is a must as a superintendent/project manager has enough responsibilities to handle.

Woody attended Embry Riddle in Daytona FL, where he majored in Aerospace Studies minoring in business, math and humanities. He also played on the college baseball team that won 2 NAIA world championships. An interesting work history note was Woody was a Truss designer and truss plant manager.

Woody and his wife Kimberly, have a son Tyler, who attends FSU majoring in finance and daughter Alexis is a senior at PBG high school in the Business Global Magnet Program. Woody's hobbies include Golf, softball, coaching his kids sports teams and eating his wife's fine cooking!!
Thanks for doing business with us.
