January 2017 Exhibit


The WCAC January 2017 exhibit entitled "Philip Lindsey and Wilson College Arts Students: Theory and Practice" continues through January 31, 2017.

Washington County Arts Council, 34 S Potomac Street, in the heart of downtown Hagerstown.


Visual Artist for the 22nd Annual Western Maryland Blues Festival Announced!

The Western Maryland Blues Fest committee has selected Nathan Gorey of Baltimore, Maryland as the Visual Artist for the 22nd Annual Western Maryland Blues Festival which will be held June 1-4, 2017 in Hagerstown, Maryland.  His original artwork entitled "Playing the Blues Together" will be used for the festival's posters, t-shirts, programs, and promotional material.  Attendees of the Blues Festival will be able to purchase chances to win the original piece at the four-day festival.  The visual artist was selected through a blind jury process of submissions sent to the Washington County Arts Council.

Call for Art Teachers!
February 2017 Exhibit


The Washington County Arts Council (WCAC) invites all art educators in Washington County's public and private schools to enter work for the 7th Annual Washington County Art Educators exhibit. This is an invitational exhibition and all work will be accepted. Each educator is allowed to submit three works that have been completed within the last two years and all work must be for sale.

Artwork may be dropped off Friday, January 27, 2017 through Wednesday, February 1, 2017 during WCAC business hours.

The Exhibit will run from February 3, 2017 through February 28, 2017. An opening reception will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 5pm to 7pm.

Call for Local Artists

The City of Hagerstown seeks one or two artists to create permanent outdoor sculptures for an audience of all ages on the new Hagerstown Cultural Trail. Works should be completed or well underway by June of 2017. The total budget for one or both works is $50,000. The call is open to artists living or working within 75 miles of Hagerstown. This artist call is presented in partnership with the Washington County Arts Council and the Visit Hagerstown-Washington County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Fast Track Public Art Project
An Outdoor Photo Mural Exhibition Celebrating the People of Hagerstown

Do you know Hagerstown, Maryland, and its people? Can you capture the truth of life in Hagerstown in a photo? Then this opportunity is for you!

The City of Hagerstown, in partnership with the Washington County Arts Council and the Visit Hagerstown-Washington County Convention & Visitor's Bureau is pleased to announce the inaugural exhibition of Faces of Hagerstown (FOH), a signature public art feature of the new Hagerstown Cultural Trail.

Faces of Hagerstown is a large-scale outdoor photo mural gallery focusing on the human face and the truth of the Hagerstown experience. It will be located along the Hagerstown Cultural Trail in two prominent locations: (1) on a layered chain link mesh screening at the West Antietam Street Entrance Plaza (artist rendering above), and (2) on a restored artistic masonry wall and custom decorative pole covers along the Lee Street segment of the Trail.

Information Meeting


The City of Hagerstown, the Washington County Arts Council and Visit Hagerstown have released calls for public art---sculpture and photography for the Hagerstown Cultural Trail. An information meeting will be held at Hagerstown City Hall on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 7PM (also live streamed and recorded on Facebook LIVE).

6th Annual Children's T-Shirt Contest


Here is your chance to become a part of the Western Maryland Blues Fest, held each year in Hagerstown, MD.
We are searching for one talented student to design this year's kids t-shirt to be sold at the festival. This student must be in Kindergarten thru 8th grade.
30 finalists will have their artwork matted and displayed at the Washington County Arts Council during the Blues Fest Poster Artist Exhibit opening Thursday, June 1, 2017 with a reception from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The show will remain on display through Tuesday, June 27, 2017.
One lucky winner, in addition to having their design placed on the children's t-shirt, will receive complimentary passes to the weekend festivities and will be introduced during the opening ceremonies on Friday, June 2nd.
