The Washington County Arts Council, Inc. hosts "Annual Community Art Show: The Best Local Art of 2016." The juried community art exhibit will run from December 2, 2016 through January 3, 2017 with an opening reception on Friday, December 2 from 5pm to 7pm.
The exhibit jurors were Benita Keller and Kathryn Burns.
Benita Keller
Benita Keller grew-up on a farm in Kearneysville, West Virginia, and presently lives in her high school town, Shepherdstown, WV. Ms. Keller teaches private workshop photography classes, is the director of The Jefferson County Photography Project and will soon be extending this to include The Washington County Photography Projects. She is presently working to get 30 years of her archives in order, working on producing photography books of her many years of photographing, and establishing an "out of the house" artist studio because she says; "My art work has out-grown my house." Benita Keller is represented by The Bridge Gallery in Shepherdstown, WV and was the featured artist in April 2015 at the Washington County Arts Council. A 1983 graduate of the University of Maryland, Ms. Keller has taught photography as an adjunct for over 25 years-at Shepherd University, The Art Institute of Washington DC and The Montgomery College School of Art and Design. Today, Ms. Keller is an adjunct professor at Hagerstown Community College where she teaches digital photography and photography for public discourse, which she describes as a photojournalism class, as well as an advanced photography class.

Previously, Ms. Burns operated Antietam Arts, A Fine Art Gallery in Boonsboro, MD and Antietam Arts Services, a whole framing and art consulting business servicing the D.C. and Western Maryland vicinity. MS. Burns has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Maryland and a Design Degree from University of Florida.

Playhouse stages riotous A Tuna Christmas
A Tuna Christmas is taking the stage at The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater and Children's Theater
November 18 through December 17.
In this hilarious sequel to Greater Tuna, it's Christmas in the third smallest town in Texas. Radio station news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including hot competition in the annual lawn display contest. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey's production of "A Christmas Carol" is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills. Many colorful Tuna denizens, some you will recognize from Greater Tuna and some appearing here for the first time, join in the holiday fun.
Steve Steele and Shawn Nakia star with Scott Ruble directing. Performances are held on Fridays and Saturdays at 6:15 pm, with select performances on Sundays and Thursdays. Tickets, which include a buffet dinner, are $42, $22 (children 5 -12). No children under age 5 admitted. Special discount applies for groups of 20 or more. Purchase tickets online at www.washingtoncountyplayhouse.com or call 301-739-7469. The Playhouse is located at 44 North Potomac Street, REAR, in the heart of Hagerstown's Arts and Entertainment District.
