Congratulations to Linda Barnhart, winner of the 2013 People's Choice Award. This $200 prize was sponsored by the Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment District - supported by The City of Hagerstown.

"Jennie Avila & Stephen Wright: Paintings, Percussion, Pots & Performances" continues through January 28, 2014.
Avila and Wright performed at the Opening Reception held on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the Gallery located at 34 South Potomac St.


"The Art of Cooking" returns!

The Washington County Arts Council will host its fifth annual fundraising dinner at Fountain Head Country Club on Saturday, January 25, 2014 (Snow date: January 26, 2014).


Lou Scally of WHAG and NBC-25 and Mary King of WIS-TV, Columbia, South Carolina will again co-emcee the event which features local "celebrity chefs" who will demonstrate their culinary skills and treat guests to delicious foods and selected wines all presented with an artful flair.


Lou Scally will entertain the guests in FHCC's ballroom while chatting with Mary King over live television as she and the guest chefs, who are in the prep kitchen, explain their recipes and demonstrate the steps to creating an irresistible dish. Then Fountain Head Executive Chef Todd Reynolds and his staff present the final product on screen and serve the guests. All attendees will be presented with a program book containing the evening's recipes.

The 2014 Guest Celebrity Chefs are siblings, Joan and Jim Bontempo; Becky and Ben Jones; Dawn and Jim Miller along with Jami and Stu Mullendore. Michael Johnston will be the event's wine expert.


A limited silent art auction will benefit both the Arts Council and donating artists. Broadcasting will be provided by Jim Miller, After Five Productions.

Good News Hagerstown! Now Accepting Applications
The artists lofts at 36-40 N. Potomac St. (above Thai Zap) are ready for tenants! Named The Studios on NoPo, staff is now accepting applications for artists who are interested in applying to live in the apartments and showcase their work in a first-floor storefront gallery. The applicants will go through a typical tenant screening process and a committee comprised of representatives from the local arts community will meet as needed to review applications. Selections will not be made based on the artist's body of work, but rather, the artist's dedication to the arts and the community. Rents range from $450-$500. Rent includes Water & Sewer - Parking - Wi-Fi - Trash. This project creates more diversified housing in the downtown while simultaneously building upon the arts presence in the core.

February 2014 Art Educators Exhibit

The Washington County Arts Council invites all art educators in Washington County's public and private schools to enter work for its February 2014 Art Educators Exhibit. This is an invitational exhibition and all work will be accepted. Each educator is allowed to submit two works that have been completed within the last two years. Artwork may be dropped off January 29, 2014 from 11am to 5pm or January 30, 2014 from 11am to 5pm.


The Exhibit will run January 31, 2014 through February 26, 2014 with an opening reception to be held at the Gallery at 34 S. Potomac Street, off Artist Alley in downtown Hagerstown on Friday, February 7, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm.
