The Potomac Playmakers Announce the latest show of the 2017-2018 Season, Arthur Miller's classic drama, All My Sons! During World War II, Joe Keller and Herbert Deever ran a machine shop that made airplane parts. Deever was sent to prison because the plant turned out defective parts, causing the deaths of twenty-one pilots. Keller went free and made a lot of money. The twin shadows of this catastrophe and the fact that the Kellers' youngest son was reported missing in action dominate the action of the play. The love affair of Chris Keller and Ann Deever, the bitterness of George Deever returned from the war to find his father in prison and his father's partner free, are all set in a structure of almost unbearable power. The climax showing the reaction of a son to a guilty father is a fitting conclusion to a play electrifying in its intensity! Produced under special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc. and directed by Cathy James, All My Sons stars Richard Dobson, April Fox, Christine Miller-Grable, Barry Harbaugh, Jeff Marcum, Mandy Matvia, Danielle Popp, Nic Sigman, and Jim Zuna .
All My Sons will run from November 10, 11, 17, 18, and 19, 2017 at The Women's Club, located at 31 S. Prospect Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. November 13, 2017 at 7:00 pm!

31. S. Prospect Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740

The Potomac Playmakers Announce Auditions for the third show of the 2017-2018 Season, Rob Urbanati's comedy, Death By Design! What happens when you mix the brilliant wit of Noël Coward with the intricate plotting of Agatha Christie? Set during a weekend in an English country manor in 1932, Death by Design is a delightful and mysterious "mash-up" of two of the greatest English writers of all time. Edward Bennett, a playwright, and his wife, Sorel Bennett, an actress, flee London and head to Cookham after a disastrous opening night. But various guests arrive unexpectedly - a conservative politician, a fiery socialist, a nearsighted ingénue, a zany modern dancer - each with a long-held secret. When one of the gue...sts is murdered, it's left to Bridgit, the feisty Irish maid with a macabre interest in homicide, to solve the crime. Death by Design is more than homage - it's a new classic!

The cast calls for four men and four women, ranging in age from 20's to 50's. Auditions for Death By Design will be held on November 12, 2017 at 6:00 and November 13, 2017 at 7:00 pm at The Women's Club, located at 31 S. Prospect Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. There will be cold readings from the script. Show dates for Death BY Design will be February 9, 10, 11, 16, & 17, 2018, with possible additional performances TBA..

Washington County Museum of Fine Arts Presents
a free Chamber Music Concert featuring the Gallery Quartet
Sunday, November 26   2:30 p.m.

The Gallery Quartet is performing Schubert's Opus 29 "Rosamunde" quartet and Beethoven's Opus 18, no. 4 quartet. Franz Schubert's evocative "Rosamunde" quartet was written in 1824, four years before Schubert's death at age 31.  Its "Rosamunde" nickname derives from the second movement theme, composed originally as incidental music for a ballet.  While the ballet passed into obscurity, Schubert's glorious music lives on.  His "Rosamunde" quartet starts with plaintive yearning and resolves in a playful, happy close.

Beethoven's Opus 18, no. 4 quartet is in c minor, the dramatic key of his famous Fifth Symphony.  Composed in 1801, it is perhaps the most popular of Beethoven's early quartets.  Heralding the composer's "romantic" middle period, it combines both stormy, emotional drama and sublimely delicate classicism.

Members of the Gallery Quartet performing are Bruce Myers and Mark Dulac, violins; Carolyn Kessler, viola; and Fay Rosinsky, cello.
The group has played at the museum for over 40 years. The concert is free and open to the public. You may RSVP at 301-739-5727 or info@wcmfa.org.
