The Washington County Arts Council, Inc. hosts its
"Annual Community Art Show: The Best Local Art of 2015."
The juried community art exhibit will run from December 4, 2015 through December 30, 2015 with an opening reception on Friday, December 4 from 5pm to 7pm.

Jurors were R. Benjamin Jones and Benita Keller.
Awards sponsored by the Hagerstown Arts & Entertainment District and supported by The City of Hagerstown.
 
Visitors to the exhibit through December 30, 2015 can vote for the "People's Choice" award.

"Donna Bingaman: Romancing the Canvas" and
"Denny Bingaman: Wild Eyes Photography".

The exhibits run through February 2, 2016.

An opening reception will be held on
Friday, January 8, 2016 from 5pm to 7pm.

City Park Shines at Annual Holiday Event
 
City Park will shine with light, heralding the holiday season on Friday evening, December 4, 2015.
Enjoy the merriment on Key Street as seasonal decorations are illuminated on the lake.
Guests will enjoy holiday characters, free hay rides, refreshments, activities, holiday story reading, and more at the Jonathan Hager House & Museum, Mansion House Art Gallery and
the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts
  • Hospice of Washington County's "Pathways of the Heart" luminary program before the tree lighting.
  • The Jonathan Hager House & Museum (110 Key St.) will host a winter petting zoo, story time, and refreshments served by the We Care Neighborhoods First group;
  • The Mansion House (501 Highland Way), will feature arts and crafts sales, free refreshments, and an opportunity to take pictures with Santa;
  • The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts (401 Museum Dr.) will hold a holiday scavenger hunt, free tours of the museum, exhibitions, and refreshments.
  • Free tractor rides provided by Washington County Antique Tractor Club will shuttle visitors between reception sites.

Robinwood Players to perform "The Odd Couple-Female Version"
Hagerstown Community College's Robinwood Players will perform Neil Simon's "The Odd Couple-Female Version," from Friday, Dec. 4, through Sunday Dec. 6, in the Kepler Theater on HCC's main campus.
Show times are 8 p.m. on Dec. 4 and 5. A special matinee performance will be held on Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.
General admission is $10, but HCC students, staff, and faculty can attend for free. The show is rated PG-13.

HCC Winter Student Exhibit
HCC to hold winter student art exhibit in December.
Hagerstown Community College will hold its winter student art exhibit from
Wednesday, Dec. 2, through Friday, Dec. 11, in the Kepler Center on HCC's main campus.
The winter student art exhibit will feature a variety of artwork including painting, drawing, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, mixed media, and photography.

Choral Arts perform

Hallelujah Chorus of Handel's glorious Messiah

Come and sing the Christmas choruses and the Hallelujah Chorus of Handel's glorious Messiah with Hagerstown Choral Arts. Start the holiday's right! The opening reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.
This event is free and the public is invited to attend.

Antietam National Battlefield Memorial Illumination 
Saturday, December 5, 2015

Location: Antietam National Battlefield. 
Driving tour begins at entrance to the park off Route 34 east of Sharpsburg, MD 21782

Volunteers place and light over 23,000 candles on the Battlefield, each representing a casualty from the bloodiest single-day battle in American history. Tour begins at 6pm. In case of inclement weather call 301-791-3246. 
Buses go to the FRONT of the line, so no wait, and it's the green way to go!

Jerry Spessard will be the featured speaker for the December 7, 2015 Robert McCauley Historical Lecture. The lecture is free and open to the public and will be held in room 309 beginning at 7:00 PM.
Spessard will talk about the History of the Hagers-town Town and Country Almanack.
Spessard, a native of Hagerstown, has been the business manager of the Hagerstown Almanack, the second oldest Almanac in the United States, since 1984. Upon graduating from the local schools he went to Virginia Tech and earned Bachelor's and Master's Degrees. In between earning the degrees he was drafted into the U. S. Army and served his country during the Viet Nam Era.
Upon finishing his active duty he served seven years in the Army Reserves.

trio Brian Helman, piano, Herm Hopple, bass and Sam Hepfer, drums will be the featured performers at a  2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20 musicale to be hosted at the historic Inn at Ragged Edge in Chambersburg.
Proceeds from the event will benefit
the Cumberland Valley School of Music.

Join Discovery Station volunteer Dave Hluchy as he leads this fun, informative class about modeling dinosaurs. This hands-on class is suitable for children of all ages.

Participants will use modeling materials such as air-dry clay, wire, paper and more to create their own dinosaur model. Space is limited to 20 participants.
