Welcome to Artist Alley, Washington County Arts Council's electronic newsletter. We hope this publication will engage you with the arts in your community.
The Washington County Arts Council has worked to enrich the cultural, social and economic life of the community through nurturing the arts since 1968. The WCAC serves residents of all ages in this diverse and growing county in the Cumberland Valley, nestled in the gently rolling mountains of western Maryland.
The WCAC provides a wide variety of programming; technical assistance; funding opportunities; and encouragement to arts organizations and individual artists, developing connections between them and those who desire to have art in their lives.
With the expiration of its former lease, the WCAC board made a concerted effort and commitment to remain in the heart of the A & E District and in January 2013 moved to the first block of South Potomac Street. The space is larger and completely ADA compliant.
The new location of the Washington County Arts Council encourages a wide mix of customers and reinforces "City Center" as the region's economic, cultural and institutional center and a regional tourist destination with a focus on history, arts and culture.
Washington County Arts Council, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 organization funded in part by the Maryland State Arts Council; the Commissioners of Washington County; the City of Hagerstown, memberships, sponsorships, donations and fundraisers. WCAC is governed by a 10-Member volunteer Board of Directors and staffed by an executive director, gallery manager and volunteers.
WCAC welcomes your ideas and support as it continues to take the lead in bringing together the community's art organizations to strengthen our region's arts culture.
