April 2018 Exhibits

The Washington County Arts Council will feature three artists during the month of April 2018.
Featured in the Main Gallery will be Linda Slattery Sherman's paintings and prints and Annamarie Poole's pottery. Photographer Jimmie Brown will display his work in the Hall Gallery.
The exhibit opens with a reception to meet the artists on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 5pm-7pm and will continue through May 1, 2018.

The Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro strives to bring together area artists, musicians, business owners, government officials, and art enthusiasts to foster better communication and cooperation in support of the arts.

Cushwa Art Scholarship Award

The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one graduating high school senior who resides in Washington County, Maryland. The student must plan to pursue a career in Visual Art, Art History, Art Education, Design, Architecture, or Museum Studies.  Funds are to be used to support tuition and fees for the first year of college. Applications are due to the Museum by May 1, 2018.

Cushwa College Internship

The Jean Cushwa College Internship at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts is offered to one qualified college student who is majoring in Fine Art, Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies, or a similar field of study.  The intern will conduct curatorial work to support art collections, exhibition planning and management, and/or art education program activities. 
This is a paid summer internship.   The intern will receive a stipend of up to $1,000.
Applications are due to the Museum by Friday, April 13, 2018.

Hagerstown Community College's Robinwood Players Theater Club will host a variety show on Friday, March 30, 2018 beginning at 7 p.m., in the Kepler Theater on HCC's main campus.

The show will feature students performing a diverse array of talents including dancing, singing, musical performances, and more.

General admission is $5 for students, faculty, staff, and $10 for all others. All proceeds benefit the Robinwood Players Theater Club activities and annual scholarship. For more information, contact Robin Shaner at

Side Street Strutters to Perform In Hagerstown, MD

Live On Stage, Inc. and the Hagerstown Community Concert Association announce World-class jazz ensemble as part of their 2017 - 2018 Concert Season.

Join the Side Street Strutters as they celebrate over 100 years of jazz music in an unforgettable concert at Maryland Theatre on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 7:30 p.m.   Advance tickets can be purchased at the Maryland Theatre Box Office or on their website, $25 for adults and $8 for Students under age 18.  Lobby doors open one hour prior to the show.  Open Seating starts 45 minutes prior to the show.  For additional ticket information, visit the association web site at

Over three decades after its inception, the Side Street Strutters continue to expand their musical palette to encompass nearly a century of classic American jazz. As the world embraces the 100th anniversary of recorded jazz, the Strutters, with Meloney Collins, invite audiences to enjoy a potpourri of jazz, pop and R&B melodies that have shaped our musical landscape.  Audiences can expect to hear songs that inspired entire generations, lyrics that reflected a particular time in our country's history, and melodies that played a significant role towards the development and enjoyment of American popular music. Trivia Night at the Library

Doors open at 6:30pm

This evening features a trivia challenge with teams competing for the coveted title of 'Washington County Free Library Trivia Champions 2018.' For inquisitive thinkers not participating in the trivia contest, we invite you to enjoy some of the other activities available this evening - a giant Jenga game, escape the room challenge, selfie photo center (complete with a green screen) and our fabulous silent auction while continuing to cheer on our trivia players.
Enjoy great food by Antietam Brewery/Benny's Pub and a variety of local wines. Cash bar.

Funds raised support the library's educational classes, lectures and cultural programming.

The Maryland Symphony Orchestra presents Disney in Concert: Tale as Old as Time

T he public is invited to attend the 80th anniversary of the Valley Art Association and the unveiling of the restored oil painting "John the Baptist" by John Henry Heyser on Saturday, April 28, 2018
The restoration completed by Chelsea Butrum, who had training in Florence Italy took 32 hours to do the surface cleaning and re-stretching.  Ms. Butrum is expected to join the celebration along with several members of the Heyser family coming from all parts of the country.  Historic memorabilia of the Valley Art Association and the Mansion Hose will be on display.  The Mansion House at city Park, Hagerstown will open at 11 AM and the unveiling will be held at 1 PM.  A reception will follow the re-dedication ceremony.  Free admission.

How I Became a Pirate
at the Washington County Playhouse
April 7 - May 26, 2018 

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater and Children's Theater is proud to present HOW I BECAME A PIRATE as Theatre for Young Audiences for ages 3 and older April 7 through May 26, 2018.
Sail off on a fantastic musical excursion when a band of comical pirates lands at North Beach looking for an expert digger to join their crew. Braid Beard and his mates enlist young Jeremy Jacob, as they try to find the perfect spot to bury their treasure. Jeremy finds that adventuring can be lots of fun, but also learns that love and home are treasures you can't find on any map! The whole family will love this delightful and swashbuckling musical adventure!
Shows are held Saturdays at 11:30am and include lunch (oven baked cheese pizza or an all beef hotdog). Beverages and gratuity are not included. Children under age 3 will not be admitted.

From 1966 to 1971 Tommy James and The Shondells released 19 consecutive chart singles. Nine of which were certified gold and three that went to number one in the country. And now, 50 years later, Mike Vale, Ron Rosman, and Ed Gray , former, original members of that great group have reunited to form "The Crystal Blue Band".
Vale, Rosman, and Gray not only recorded the litany of hits they released from 1966 on but in many cases co-wrote the songs such as Crystal Blue Persuasion, Ball Of Fire, Sugar On Sunday, She, Loved One, Cellophane Symphony and many more. This group of legends have appeared on The Ed Sullivan show (twice), Bandstand (5 times), The Dating Game, Mike Douglas, Merv Griffith, Joey Bishop and a host of others and recently were recipients of the prestigious 2017 Pittsburgh Rock Legends Award.
Their great hits have been covered by some of Rock's biggest stars like Billy Idol (Mony Mony), Joan Jett/Prince ( Crimson And Clover), Santana (Crystal Blue Persuasion), Tiffany (I Think Were Alone Now), Tom Jones (I'm Alive) and have also been featured in great motion pictures such as Expendables 2, Forest Gump, We Are Marshall, The Nannie Diaries, Zodiac, Monster, Walk On The Moon and many more.
According to multiple industry sources they were part of the biggest selling singles group in the world from 1968 through 1969, including The Beatles .
