Call for a Sculpture
for the New Washington County Commission on Aging, Inc.
Offices and NEW Senior Center

In the winter of 2015, The Washington County Commission on Aging, Inc will relocate to the newly renovated Army Reserve building on Willard Street in Hagerstown Maryland. The Commission on Aging desires to commission a sculpture of only the tree from their logo (above). The sculpture will hang inside the main entrance.

HWC's 35th Anniversary Celebration:
Call for Art

Hospice of Washington County, Inc. (HWC), in partnership with and support from The Washington County Arts Council (WCAC) and The Valley Art Association, is pleased to invite visual artists, including local artists of Western Maryland and the surrounding area, to answer a "Call to Artists" for the opportunity to create a poster to be used in celebrating Hospice of Washington County's 35 years of service to the community. All submissions are subject to the guidelines set forth herein, and the "Call to Artists" is open to submission by any and all interested artists.

 

The theme for this contest is, "Transformation," (a change in form, appearance, nature or character). Interested artists are encouraged to visit Hospice of Washington County's website at www.hospiceofwc.org. HWC's 35th Anniversary Celebration will include many events throughout 2015. One selected original work of art will be commissioned by HWC, and will be used to create posters and promotional materials.

Hager House and Railroad Museum Open for the Parks Season


The City of Hagerstown's Parks & Recreation Division is pleased to announce the opening of the Jonathan Hager House Museum and the Hagerstown Railroad Museum & Engine 202 for the 2015 season. These historic sites merge education and fun, facilitating learning through an immersive, hands-on experience. Beginning Friday, April 10, 2015 the museums will be open to visitors every Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and
one Sunday a month from 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. through October 2015.

National History Day Student Exhibit at Miller House

 

Selected student entries from Washington County Public Schools National History Day will be on display for a special two-day exhibit at the Miller House Museum on Friday, April 17, 2015 from 1 to 6 p. m. and Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. These fine examples of in-depth research, accessing primary and secondary sources, were executed on display boards for the local competition earlier this year as part of National History Day. Students were challenged to depict their chosen subject using the 2015 theme of "Leadership and Legacy." National History Day is a program supported by the Maryland Humanities Council annually for all eighth grade students in middle school and students of Advanced Placement History in high school.

 

There will be no charge for this exhibit only. Full tours of the Miller House Museum will follow normal admission prices: $8.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors and students. www.washcomdhistoricalsociety.org.

Complete with stunning costume design, theatrical magic and a cast of 70 dancers, this ballet makes the perfect mother's day gift for your whole family to enjoy!

The Downtown Movement -- May 29-31, 2015

 

The Downtown Movement will be holding its third Pop-Up Event on May 29-31, 2015. a week-long summer program for students entering grades K-12.
