Washington County Historical Society

welcomes the Pewter Cupboard from Belinda Springs Resort on the Antietam.

WCHS will host a reception on May 2, 2015, from 1 to 3 p.m., to celebrate a new addition to the collection of period furniture within the Miller House Museum. This cupboard may be the oldest piece of documented Washington County furniture, circa 1730-1760.

A recent gift from Joseph and Suzanne (Roulette) Nalley of Sharpsburg, the pewter cupboard from Belinda Springs Resort, which operated along the Antietam Creek, below Sharpsburg, from 1822 to about 1850, has been added to the kitchen of the Miller House Museum. This relic of the mid-1700s is a German style, one-piece cabinet used on the Belinda Springs farm during its long-term service. It had remained in the Snavely-Roulette family for many years, perhaps moving from Eakle's Mill near Keedysville, when the Snavely family acquired the farm where the resort had operated, offering mineral spring "healing waters."

This event coincides with the beginning of the annual Washington County Museum Ramble, sponsored by the Hagerstown Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Washington County Association of Museums and Historic Sites. The Ramble continues throughout the month of May. Each weekend features sites in different segments of the county. Visit for complete details.
