2018 Western Maryland Bluesfest

Here's your chance to own this year's original Blues Fest cover art! Put a bid in during our month-long auction, taking place at Washington County Arts Council, Inc. Susan Liselle Carney's fantastic "Guitar Girl" is on view now and bid sheets are ready for you! The winning bid will be announced just before Billy Branch's set on Saturday, June 2.

Children's Blues Fest Exhibit

The Washington County Arts Council will host the Children's Blues Poster Contest Exhibit during June 2018 with an opening reception on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 4-7pm .

Contest winners and their families met Hagerstown Mayor and City Council at the Council Meeting on May 22, 2018

The Winners:
Winner Hand-Drawn category is Jasmine Walker-Keegan a
7th grade student at Western Heights Middle School.
 
Winner Digital category is Sonora Kershner a
7th grade student at Boonsboro Middle School

Congratulations to all organizations which received a grant from the Mary K. Bowman Fund for Historical and Fine Arts Grant from the Community Foundation of Washington County MD!

Grant awards were distributed on May 22, 2018. 

WCAC board members Jim Pierné and Jessica Scott accepted the Washington County Arts Council's award which will support the Art Educators Exhibit 2019.

Janie Moltrup the May-June 2018 exhibitor at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce spoke with guests at the May 23, 2018 Coffee & Connections.

Property Tax Credits for new construction or renovation of certain buildings that create live-work space for artists and/or space for arts and entertainment enterprises;
 
Income Tax Subtraction Modification for income derived from artistic work sold, publicized, or produced within the District by a Maryland artist; and
 
Exemption from the Admissions and Amusement tax levied by an arts and entertainment enterprise or qualifying residing artist in a district.

Blues Fest Weekend Kick-off
May 31, 2018 * 5-8pm 
 
Kick off your 2018 Blues Fest weekend on Thursday, May 31, 2018 from 5 to 8pm at the Miller House Museum Gardens, 135 West Washington Street in Hagerstown, Maryland. Join the Washington County Historical Society as it celebrates with live music from Pete Lancaster and Stack O' Blues. The evening includes a delicious barbeque supper and two complimentary drinks for each ticket holder. A cash bar also will be open. Proceeds from the event will help support the Washington County Historical Society.

Tickets are available for $35 per person ($30 for WCHS members). Tickets may be reserved by contacting the WCHS offices at 301-797-8782, emailing info@washcohistory.org, www.eventbrite.com or visiting the Events/Programs page of www.washcohistory.org.

Share a meal and conversation with someone you don't know*, exchange stories about life in Washington County, and discover both common ground and new ideas. The dialogue starts when you come to the table.

The Longest Table will be held in the 100 block of South Potomac Street in front of the Fletcher branch library. In the event of rain, the event will be moved inside.

This event is also a celebration of our newly re-established Choose Civility Washington County initiative! 

TABLE HOSTS NEEDED. Interested in being a Table Host? We will provide conversation starters and an orientation. The goal is to provide each table with a Table Host who will keep guests actively engaged in conversation throughout the evening.
