The Washington County Arts Council will host an opening reception at the Gallery at 34 South Potomac Street, in downtown Hagerstown, Friday, June 26, 2015, from 5 pm until 7 pm.

Come watch Maryland's best as they vie for the title of Miss Maryland and Miss Maryland's Outstanding Teen. The Miss Maryland/Miss Maryland Outstanding Teen Pageants are official preliminaries to Miss America and Miss America's Outstanding Teen competitions, the world's largest scholarship organization for woman.

Individual Artist Awards

The Maryland State Arts Council's annual Individual Artist Award (IAA) recognizes the importance of artists and their works of excellence to the cultural vibrancy of Maryland. Each year, awards of $1,000, $3,000 or $6,000 go to Artists from across Maryland who are selected through an anonymous process by an out-of-state jury on the basis of artistic merit alone. The categories are:

  • Creative Non-Fiction/Fiction
  • Media/Digital/Electronic Arts
  • Theater:  Solo Performance
  • Visual Arts:  Painting
  • Visual Arts:  Works on Paper

Diana C. Suttenfield: The Subject is Light  

  Exhibit runs through Sunday, July 5, 2015

Suttenfield has spent the past thirty years observing the light falling on her surroundings and portraying its effects in pastel and paint. This exhibition is a survey of her work. Gallery talk 2:30 p.m. March 15. She has worked in a variety of mediums and has exhibited in national and international galleries and competitions; and her work is in private and corporate collections throughout the United States. Since the mid 1980s, her paintings and pastels have focused on the regional landscape of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Mason Dixon Barbershop Quartet

Sunday, July 12, 2015 at 2:30 p.m.
The concert is free and open to the public. The Hagerstown Barbershop Chorus formed over 50 years ago and is one of over 800 chapters. There is a total membership in excess of 35,000 men making it the world's largest singing society. Summer School Focuses on

Heritage Areas   

The theme of Preservation Maryland's summer school this year is "Stimulating Investment and Creating Jobs in Maryland's Main Streets and Heritage Areas." Economic development directors, business owners, planners, tourism professionals and preservationists are invited to participate in the workshop in Baltimore on Wednesday, July 22.

Lend Me A Tenor    

Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater and Children's Theater

Lend Me A Tenor is set in September 1934. Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous, Tito Morelli, Il Stupdendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Otello. The star arrives late, and through a hilarious series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. What follows is a madcap farce that only author Ken Ludwig can deliver! Tickets to the show, which includes a salad bar, hot buffet and dessert cost $39.00 for adults and $19.00 for children ages 5 through 12.
