The Washington County Arts Council will host an opening reception at the Gallery at 34 South Potomac Street, in downtown Hagerstown on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5 pm until 7 pm.

The Fletcher Library in downtown Hagerstown is hosting a Comic Con this summer!

This event is FREE and open to all age groups!

There will be a costume contest, gaming, crafting, vendors, guest speakers, and more!

Welcome fans and followers of the Maryland International Film Festival-Hagerstown. This is the 5th year for the festival which will be held April 1-3, 2016 in the same locations as last year in the heart of the Arts & Entertainment District.

For 5 years, the festival has been bringing the people of this city and county the finest films from around the world. The film festival became a 501(c) 3 and launched in 2009! It has been growing ever since. MDIFF has since added a Creative Director, Hollywood Director Joe Carnahan, who has produced such films as "The Grey;" "The A-Team" with Liam Neeson; Bad Boys 3 now in production; and directed some of television shows like "The Blacklist" and "State of Affairs".

A ugustoberfest pays tribute to the area's rich German heritage and supports scholarships for exchange students to Hagerstown's Sister City-Wesel, Germany.
Historical Society Bus Tour Reservations Due

Time is running out to reserve a seat for the Washington County Historical Society's inaugural bus tour on Saturday, August 22. Reservations are due by August 14 for this in depth look at a number of the most interesting sites in the southern end of the county, some of which are seldom open to the public.


Dr. Tom Clemens, author and historian, will guide attendees through the very early Antietam Furnace area and Civil War experiences in Sharpsburg, the John Brown Farm and Antietam Battlefield, among others.


Transportation provided on chartered bus, with lunch included. Seating is limited. Call 301-797-8782 for more details. Future trips are being mapped for other parts of the county.      Auditions for CABARET will be held on Monday August 10, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. 

CABARET is a musical with book by Joe Masteroff, based on the play by John Van Druten and stories by Christopher Isherwood featuring music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.

     Performance dates are September 26, October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24 and November 6, 7, 13, 14, 2015. Please prepare 16 bars of a Broadway style song and be prepared to dance. Headshot and resumes appreciated, but NOT required. Most roles non-union paying. Cast members may also join service staff. Serving, bussing and bartending opportunities available.

     Production Staff includes: Director Shawn R. Martin, Choreographer Alyssa Little, Music Director Daniel Speis. CABARET is produced by Mack's Theatricals, LLC.

This international open juried exhibition is hosted by Maryland Federation of Art and will be on display at Circle Gallery (18 State Circle, Annapolis MD) from October 10 - November 21. Original 2-D artwork created with any painting media (oil, pastel, acrylic, watercolor, encaustic, etc.) is eligible for entry. Awards total $1000.

MFA @ Gallery B is open for entry.


This juried exhibition is open for entry to all MFA members (artists may become a MFA member at the time of entry). Original 2-D and 3-D artwork of all media are eligible for entry. This exhibit will display at Gallery B in Bethesda from November 6 - December 29. Juror is Margery Goldberg of D.C.'s Zenith Gallery. Awards total $1000.

This international open juried exhibition is hosted by the Maryland Federation of Art and will be on display at Circle Gallery (18 State Circle, Annapolis MD) from November 27 - December 23, 2015. Any original 2-D artwork not exceeding 11" and 3-D artwork not exceeding 7" is eligible. Juror is Georgia Deal, Professor at the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design. Awards total $1000.

BTM, Maryland's only professional ballet company along with students from BTJ, a local dance school, will retell the story of King Arthur's legend from the Sword and the Stone through the creation of the Knights of the Round Table through the downfall of Camelot.
