About the Maryland Pastel Society
Founded in 1977, the Maryland Pastel Society is a non-profit organization devoted to the promotion and development of professional, original works of art in the medium of soft pastel and to the creative and technical development of its members. There are many local pastel societies throughout the country, but the Maryland Pastel Society is the oldest state society and is an active member of the International Association of Pastel Societies. While the Society had its roots in the Baltimore area, its members (over 200 today) come from all over the Mid-Atlantic region.
Our society aims to provide educational opportunities for artists and the public through the Society’s website, lectures, art demonstrations, workshops, and art exhibitions.

Auditions for Potomac Playmakers -
25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Potomac Playmakers Performing Arts Center, 17303 W. Washington Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740
11/20/2023,11/21/2023 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Potomac Playmakers proudly announce auditions for the musical "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!” In this classic Rachel Sheinkin musical, an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box. Produced with kind permission of Music Theatre International, “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will be directed by Jeff Wine with music direction by David Loy and choreography by Bailey Kershner.
Auditions will be held on Monday, November 20, 2023 and Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at The Potomac Playmakers Performing Arts Center, located at 17303 W. Washington Street, Hagerstown, Maryland 21740. Auditions start promptly at 7:00 p.m. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, improv exercises, and a dance portion. Applicants are asked to prepare 32 bars of music from a show tune. Sheet music must be provided for the accompanist, who will be provided for the audition. No a cappella performances will be permitted for the auditions. Applicants should also wear comfortable clothing and shoes for the dance portion of the audition. The script calls for 3 male and 3 female performers aged 18-early 30’s. Older teens will be considered with a signed parental consent form, due to mature language and content in the show. The script further calls for one female performer aged early 30’s – early 40’s, and two male performers aged 30’s-50’s. Rehearsals will begin in early January, with performances scheduled for March 8-10 and March 15-17, 2024. All applicants will be required to furnish all known conflicts for the period of January 2, 2024 through March 17, 2024. Any additional questions should be directed to Jeff Wine at jeffreydwine@gmail.com or 240-513-6260
The Potomac Playmakers, founded in 1926, is one of the nation's longest running active community theatre groups. For more information, visit The Potomac Playmakers’ website at www.potomacplaymakers.org , email potomacplaymakers@gmail.com or call (240) 382-7269.
