Welcome to the eighth edition of Haines Gallery's  Artist Digest.

Once a week, we focus our attention on the work of a single artist, bringing you a carefully curated mix of content that invites you to explore their practice in depth.

Today's Digest spotlights Binh Danh, whose innovative approaches to early photographic processes have earned him a place within the medium's history.
About the Artist
For over a decade, photographer Binh Danh has traveled across the American West, making daguerreotypes of scenic vistas and national parks. His command of this demanding technique produces images of great beauty and unparalleled detail. Using a 19th century format for decidedly contemporary aims, Danh imbues the scenery with his own immigrant experience. The daguerreotypes’ highly reflective surfaces literally mirror their surroundings, inviting viewers into the idyllic environs they depict. Danh’s work has been exhibited and collected by leading institutions, including the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; de Young Museum, San Francisco; Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Philadelphia Museum of Art; George Eastman Museum, Rochester, NY; and San Jose Museum of Art, CA.
