Barb Rebstock
Now Through December 27th
Kirkwood Public Library is proud to announce December’s Art Gallery artist Barb Rebstock. Each month this year, a different local artist will exhibit their art to the Kirkwood community in the Art Gallery. The library is proud to inspire a lifelong commitment to learning and creativity, for a more thriving community.

The featured artist for the month of December will be local artist Barb Rebstock. Barb Rebstock specializes in watercolors of nature.
Barb Rebstock enjoys activities that involve nature, animals, music and art. “The works and techniques of Vincent Van Gogh have inspired me to paint in watercolor about nature’s beauty.”
 
Barb Rebstock’s art will be on display in the Art Gallery, located on the main floor of the Library, from November 29th through December 27th. The Art Gallery is open during normal library hours.

Holiday Brass Concerts at Manchester United Methodist Church - NEARLY SOLD OUT!
December 5th and 6th
Celebrating our 31st Annual Season, the Holiday Brass Concerts will feature the Monarch Brass trumpets playing, among other seasonal favorites, “Bugler’s Holiday”, and the Alpine Horns playing their beautiful arrangement of “Silent Night”. Grammy Award-winning soprano Christine Brewer will reprise her signature “O Holy Night”.

As always Susan Slaughter will lead the Holiday Brass ensemble in traditional holiday carols, joined by the Manchester United Methodist Church Chancel Choir, bagpipers, and drummers from the Saint Louis Caledonian Pipe Band, and the concert will conclude with the glorious “Hallelujah Chorus”. The Clayton High School Marimba Ensemble will perform the prelude concert, which begins 45 minutes before each concert.

The concerts are scheduled to be performed in the festively decorated Manchester United Methodist Church,129 Woods Mill Road, Manchester, MO, 63011, as follows:

Music in the Library
December 18th at 2pm
Kirkwood Public Library’s Music in the Library will feature Guitar Orchestra of St. Louis Classical Guitar Concert Around the World on Sunday, December 18th at 2pm on the main level of the library.

Join the Guitar Orchestra of St. Louis Classical Guitar as they go around the world visiting a variety of locations featuring the British Isles, Latin America, Russia, Finland, Africa, and more! From beautiful hymn-like folk tunes to groovy, dance rhythms, you'll be sure to enjoy all the selections that the SLCG Guitar Orchestra has to offer.

The Annual Choir and Orchestra Christmas Concert at the First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood

Featuring music of the season by John Rutter, Herbert Howells, Dan Forrest, Mack Wilberg, and featuring the “Magnificat” by Taylor Scott Davis.

This concert is free and open to the community. 
Kirkwood United Methodist December Events
December 7, 14 & 21 at noon
You are invited to come on Wednesdays in December at noon to enjoy the Adventsmusiken Concert Series in the Sanctuary at Kirkwood United Methodist Church. A different performer or musical group is featured each week. These concerts are free and open to the public. Then, stay after if you like for a light luncheon in the lounge for a suggested donation of $5. This year's concert series performances are: 
       
  • Wednesday, December 7: Bel Canto Women’s Ensemble will be singing Renaissance Christmas Carols. 
  • Wednesday, December 14: A Fifth Above Woodwind Quintet will perform a varied program of classical music and music for the season. They will perform a varied program of classical music and holiday music by composers and arrangers such as Grainger, Holst, Haydn, Pierne, Nagle, Holcombe, and Bussick. 
  • Wednesday, December 21: Bonnie Wilson will be playing holiday pieces for you on both piano and organ.
ReBELLion Handbell Ensemble Holiday Concert:

ReBELLion Handbell Ensemble is under the direction of Dolan
Bayless, founder of ReBELLion, and Director of Traditional Worship and Music at
KUMC. This year's holiday concert includes favorites like “Masters in This Hall”, “Fum, Fum, Fum”, “The First Noel”, “Silent Night”, and “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen”. The concert will end with a rousing edition “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” followed by “Glorias” based on the carol Angels We Have Heard on High. Find more information at www.kirkwoodumc.org
Saint Louis Wind Symphony & ReBELLion Handbell Ensemble Concert

Sanctuary at Kirkwood United Methodist Church

Join ReBELLion Handbell Ensemble
and the Saint Louis Wind Symphony for their collaborative concert that has become a favorite holiday tradition in Kirkwood! Each will play pieces separately and four pieces will be played together including “Christmas Festival”, by Leroy Anderson, and “Christmas Bells Overture”, by Douglas Wagner. You will be invited to participate to sing carols accompanied by handbells and wind instruments during the concert. The final piece of the program has become an audience favorite as ReBELLion and the St. Louis Wind Symphony combine to play “Sleigh Ride”. Workshops for Writers—December 3, 2022

The St. Louis Writers Guild Board presents Book Party: Readings from the Young Writers Award and Book Fair
 
Join The St. Louis Writers Guild Board from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, December 3 for a Book Party! We will celebrate the Guild Young Writers 2022 Awards, and the winning authors will read their stories. As an adjunct to the SLWG Virtual Book Fair (November 26 through December 31), Guild members will hold an in-person book fair before and after the readings.

Attendees can participate in-person at The Lodge Des Peres, 1050 Des Peres Rd., St. Louis, MO, 63131. The event will also livestream via Zoom. To attend the meeting online, follow the event link from the St. Louis Writers Guild website. To attend the Virtual Book Fair, visit the Book Fair page at the Guild website.
The in-person gathering will follow the 2/28/22 St. Louis County Health Advisory. MASKS ARE OPTIONAL, and we will not collect attendee information for contact tracing. No food or drinks will be served.
