LOCAL CALLS/COMPETITIONS
Arts Council Greater Lansing announces a call to teachers for their "Support Young Creatives Billboard Project." Teachers are invited to submit one piece of work by a student artist attending school in the Greater Lansing Region for the chance of having their art displayed on a digital billboard, during Youth Art Month in March 2021. Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center announces a call to youth artists for their Ingham "Student Art Exhibit." Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center, Ingham Intermediate School District and the Michigan Education Leadership Group host this celebration of excellence in the visual arts for young people in grades K-12+. East Lansing Art Festival is seeking artists for their annual juried Art Festival, held May 22-23, 2021, in East Lansing, Michigan. All work must be the creation of the exhibiting artist: the original concept, design, style and execution must be attributable solely to the displaying artist(s). Charlevoix Circle of Arts announces an open call for entry to all Michigan visual artists working in all mediums including 2-D, 3-D, functional art, fine craft, photography and installation for their "Re | Art Exhibition." They invite artists to comment visually to the many shifts taking place in our current experience. Adrian Center for the Arts seeks entries for a juried art exhibition, "Celestial Bodies," to be held April 12 - May 21, 2021. Artists may interpret "Celestial Bodies" broadly or idiosyncratically and submit up to three pieces completed within last three years. Use any medium or combination to make original works. LowellArts West Michigan announces its 35th annual "West Michigan Art Competition" which highlights outstanding artwork by lower West Michigan artists who reside in a 25-county region. Perspective Gallery in Evanston, Illinois seeks entries for a juried photography exhibition, March 5-28, 2021. Up to $650 in awards will be presented. IU Kokomo Downtown Gallery announces "Anxiety in a Time of Pandemic." Anxiety is a major aspect within society, only more prevalent since the beginning of COVID-19 and other current global events, such as the election and Black Lives Matter. There needs to be more societal awareness brought to the struggles that humans face with anxiety, especially during a time of limited social interaction, combined with the risk of serious illness. Artists are capable of bridging the gap of visually portraying the sometimes-overwhelming intangible feelings anxiety possesses.
