Delaware Organizations Receive Mid Atlantic Tours Grants

and On Screen/In Person Films

Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation has announced $170,420 in grants supporting 66 performing arts engagements through its
2015-2016 Mid Atlantic Tours program. Two Delaware organizations will receive support:

  • Coastal Concerts, for an engagement with Sybarite5, a New York based string quartet, on April 16, 2016.
  • Wesley College, for an engagement with The Crooked Road, a program of traditional music from Southwest Virginia including old time string bands, a cappella gospel, blues, ballads, and bluegrass, on April 10, 2016.

In addition, The Queen Theater in Wilmington will again serve as host for a series of independent films and filmmakers, supported by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation through its On Screen/In Person program. On Screen/In Person brings some of the best new independent American films and their creators to communities across the mid-Atlantic region. This year's films, focusing on the arts and women's issues, will follow deaf poets as they enter the world of ASL slam poetry, a choreographer using dance for healing and escape, and a retrospective on the remarkable career of visual artist Miriam Beerman. Audiences will learn the story of hidden female soldiers during the Civil War, the crisis of rape faced by women and children in Liberia, and the incredible musical legacy of the Carter and Cash families. The filmmakers will tour with their films to the venues for public screenings which include question and answer sessions with the audience.

NEA 50th Anniversary - Tell Your Story!

This year, 2015, is the 50th anniversary of the signing of the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act of 1965, which created the National Endowment for the Arts. To better recount the story of the NEA and the arts in America, the NEA wants to share your story of how the arts have influenced your life. They invite you to share:

  • how the arts are part of your day,
  • how the arts have inspired you to do something unique, or
  • how they have made a difference among you and your family, as well as in the communities and neighborhoods in which you live.

If there is a specific NEA grant that has had an impact on you and your community, let them know. In addition to, or instead of, a narrative, you can include one to three photos and/or one video or audio of no more than five minutes.

Starting September 29, 2015, the NEA will begin posting these stories on their website and promoting them across social media. Join the celebration by telling your story of how the arts or the NEA have influenced your life.
