Tourism, Arts & Downtown Development

Delmarva towns are working together to market their unique offerings on a collaborative marketing website called Eat. Drink. Buy Art on Delmarva . This website was developed by TADD - Tourism, Arts, Downtown Development - a network of 18 communities on Maryland's Eastern Shore and in Delaware. Participating Delaware towns are Dover, Middletown, Milford, Milton, Newark, and Rehoboth Beach. The website lists artists, art venues, restaurants, and events in these communities so that visitors can plan their trips to the area. There is also a new mobile app, a newsletter, and a radio show featuring artists, Delmarva Almanac, on WSCL and WSDL.
Featured Delaware State Arts Council Member

Five new members were appointed to the Delaware State Arts Council this fall. We introduce them to you one per month in Arts E-News.

Mary Ann Miller, a development specialist with Delaware Futures, was exposed to the arts as an adolescent, spurring her lifelong passion for the arts. With a degree in sociology and a minor in art, Miller served as proprietor of Charisma Gallery, a successful fine art gallery in Englewood NJ. She introduced an annual elementary school calendar contest for Fair Housing, which is still in existence and promoted by HUD, with a trip to Washington, DC to meet the President, as a prize to the winning students. Later Miller became executive director of the Art Center of Northern NJ, a fine art school focused on painting and drawing, photography, watercolor, and stone and wood sculpture.

On the Mezzanine

December
The Delaware Division of the Arts Mezzanine Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of work by Robert M. Bickey, a 2015 Artist Fellow in Sculpture, during the month of December. Bent will be on view from December 4, 2015 - January 22, 2016, with an opening reception on Friday, December 4 from 5-7 p.m.

Bickey will create a special installation of his work for the Mezzanine Gallery. Bickey's sculptures have been designed to ask questions of the audience about art and beauty, time and place, and what society deems as precious. He explains, "My work exploits the known and conditioned aspects of personal experience placed into a new and unfamiliar framework that functions as a way to explore and navigate our relationship to the art and, on a good day, the world around us."

November
Paintings by Tom Newby will be on display in the Mezzanine Gallery from November 6-25 with a meet-the-artist reception on November 6, 5-7 p.m. Watch the   Meet the Artist video with Newby.
