Meet the 2015 Artist Fellows

Learn about the fellows, see and hear their work samples, and note their upcoming appearances on our website. Each of this year's 16 award-winning artists is featured on their own page. From poets to visual artists to musicians, each fellow has a unique story and outstanding talent.

In addition to their individual activities, they will soon be part of a group exhibition, Award Winners XV, at the Biggs Museum of American Art in Dover from July 3 through September 27, with a reception, awards ceremony and performances on Saturday, September 26.

This month, artist fellow Britania Redington will perform on Saturday, May 23 at Dover Presbyterian Church  (rescheduled from April). Karoline Wileczek's solo exhibition, "From the Quiver," opens on  May 14 at the Gilbert W. Perry, Jr. Center for the Arts in Middletown.

Farewell to Terry Plummer

The Division of the Arts wishes Terry Plummer a fond farewell, on the occasion of her retirement, after 20 years of service to the State of Delaware. For the past eight years, the Division has had the great fortune of having Terry on our staff. A special thanks to the Division of Libraries for releasing her to us. Their loss was our gain!

During her time with us, Terry initiated the  StartUp Program, ensuring that emerging organizations get foundational training in organizational management and development. This work was critical in establishing a strong working relationship with the Delaware Alliance for Nonprofit Advancement, and for helping new arts ventures to take root.

Closer to her home in southern Delaware, Terry was instrumental in connecting several Delaware towns to regional arts marketing efforts through the Tourism and Downtown Development (or TADD) initiative. This has bolstered the visibility of Delaware arts and communities throughout the Delmarva Peninsula.

Terry also shepherded the Division through a revamping of our Artist Roster, working not only with the content submitted by the artists, but also on the web development - and glitches - that accompany new technology. The result is an attractive website for Delaware artists of all disciplines to promote themselves and their work, free of charge.

Terry will be missed for her no-nonsense, efficient work ethic, and her team spiritedness. Her abilities in the workplace have been exceeded only by her humility. She has contributed more to the agency than she can imagine.

We wish her the best in her new endeavors, now that she has more time to spend with her family...and in the garden!

Delaware Artist Roster

The  Delaware Artist Roster is a free resource for anyone looking for artistic talent in Delaware! You can find literary, media, performing and visual artists available to create, exhibit, perform, or present programs across the state and throughout the region. Individual artists and performing groups in this roster have not been juried, but have submitted applications that have been reviewed and meet the basic criteria established by the Delaware Division of the Arts.

The Delaware Division of the Arts accepts applications from artists interested in being included in the roster on an ongoing basis. There is no charge to apply. Find the heading "Artists" on the upper right corner of the Delaware Artist Roster home page and click on "Register" to create an application for a new listing or "Log In" to edit an existing listing. If you need assistance, please contact Roxanne Stanulis.

NEA 50th Anniversary - Tell Your Story!

This year, 2015, is the 50th anniversary of the signing of the National Foundation on the Arts and the Humanities Act of 1965, which created the National Endowment for the Arts. To better recount the story of the NEA and the arts in America, the NEA wants to share your story of how the arts have influenced your life. They invite you to share:

  • how the arts are part of your day,
  • how the arts have inspired you to do something unique, or
  • how they have made a difference among you and your family, as well as in the communities and neighborhoods in which you live.

If there is a specific NEA grant that has had an impact on you and your community, let them know. In addition to, or instead of, a narrative, you can include one to three photos and/or one video or audio of no more than five minutes.

Starting September 29, 2015, the NEA will begin posting these stories on their website and promoting them across social media. Join the celebration by telling your story of how the arts or the NEA have influenced your life.
