Join us for PSAE's Annual Arts Integration Conference! | |
Before you close the book on the '23-'24 school year, start planning for your professional development needs in October! Consider planning to attend PSAE's LOOKING AHEAD: SHAPING THE FUTURE OF ARTS INTEGRATION October 21-22 in beautiful Summerville, SC!
A great way to attend to the Conference is by putting together a team from your school! Here's what frequent attendee Lori Patterson had to say about bringing a team from Pine Street School to the Conference each year:
The PSAE Annual Conference uniquely brings together arts specialists, grade-level teachers, subject-area educators, administrators, and teaching artists to enhance student learning through the arts. Pine Street School sends a team yearly, who attend various sessions and share insights. The conference inspires our educators with ideas and connections for rigorous, standards-based learning, enriching students' experiences.

Every few years, the South Carolina Arts Commission conducts the Canvass of the People, a crucial initiative aimed at gathering information about the arts in our state. This process involves an online survey to gather input critical to shaping our strategic plan and informing grants and programs offered.
You are essential to this process. By participating in a brief, anonymous survey, you'll help the SCAC better understand the arts needs of our communities.
Please take a few moments to complete the survey: Canvass of the People 2025

Legislative Update
The last day of the SC legislative session was May 9th, but legislators are set to return after the June 11th primary elections to finalize the budget. As the House and Senator settle their budget differences over the next few weeks in Conference Committee, we can really use your help encouraging members to support the higher, House version of arts funding.
To make it easy to advocate, we’ve set up a campaign – but we encourage you to add your own stories about the impact of arts education in your schools and communities.
In Washington, Congress finally passed their FY24 budget back in March, funding the National Endowment for the Arts at the Senate level of $207 million. Work has already begun on the FY25 budget, which means there are lots of opportunities for advocates to contact your legislators and ensure that the arts continue to be supported at the Federal level.
We’re focused on a few key items:
- Support for the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities at $211 million each.
- Support for Arts Education through the Department of Education’s ESAA funding, and through sponsorship of the Arts Education for All Act.
You can read more about each of these and contact your legislators here.
Finally, it’s a big election year, with all 124 SC House seats, all 46 SC Senate seats, and all 7 US Congress seats on the ballot. We’ve compiled candidate and voting information at our Election HQ, and will continue to add resources as we get closer to the general election.

We are excited for this new collaboration with the Clemson Cooperative Extension, and look forward to visiting 14 sites across the state this year in partnership with the SCGSAH Admissions team.
Come visit us! Stop by to create a unique sticker with our SC Endangered Species activity and strike, shake, rub, or scrape everyday objects to create music with our Sounds of Agriculture exhibit.
