OPENING NIGHT:

February 12

Join us at Civic Theatre for our opening night of The Revolutionists! Enjoy free appetizers from Revolution BBQ and pre-show music in the lobby with a special appearance by The Voyageur Ancient Fife & Drum Corps! Lobby opens at 6:00 and showtime is 7:30! www.lafayettecivic.org

A play about four very real women who lived boldly in France during the French Revolution's reign of terror. Playwright Olympe De Gouge, assassin Charlotte Corday, former Queen (and fan of ribbons) Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle hang out, murder Marat, lose their heads, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in the Paris of 1793. What was a hopeful revolution for the people is now sinking into hyper-violent, hypocritical male rhetoric. However, will modern audiences relate?! This grand and dream-tweaked comedy is about violence and legacy, art and activism, compatriots and chosen sisters, and how we actually go about changing the world.

Opening Night Host: Holiday Inn City Centre

Show Sponsor: Revolution BBQ & Sweet Revolution

Film and Discussion

February 18 at 6:00 PM

To celebrate Black History Month, join us for a film detailing the life of one of the first master chefs in early America, James Heming, who was responsible for introducing Mac & Cheese, French fries, whipped cream, and many other foodie favorites to American kitchens. The life, contributions, and erasure of America's culinary founding father are explored by food historians, celebrated chefs, experts on race and the African American diaspora. Through their words and the persistence of a curious chef, Ashbell McElveen, the life of America's missing icon comes into focus. There will be a brief discussion after; snacks will be provided.
