Artists' Own Gallery

Works in Clay & Paper

July 18 , 2025 10:00 AM

Artists' Own Gallery, 518 Main St., Lafayette, IN

Linda LeMar and LuAnn Lamie will be presenting “Work in Clay and Paper” at Artists’ Own Gallery from July 18-September 13. Their show will have an opening reception on July 18 from 6-9 p.m. in coordination with the Gallery Walk Downtown.

LeMar’s inspirations for this work comes from English gardens. Vibrant combinations of color, and texture, lead to endless possibilities. LeMar incorporates paper pulp into a clay slurry to make her wall reliefs. Her work is fired in a kiln multiple times after oxides and clay pigments are applied to the surface. Other media are often added to each piece after firing. Linda is a member of Artists’ Own.

Lamie’s castings were created using Twin Rocker paper pulp pressed into clay molds. Fiber reactive dyes added subtle colors to the wet pulp. She expanded the work to include the use of clay. Embellishments, rich colors, marks, fossils and stones were then added when the paper was dry. The processes of paper making and book arts guided the structure of this body of work. This work is based on bags, pouches and purses, accessories that people use to carry or transport precious treasures.
