Spanning a spectrum of scales, Pulley's sculptures range from intimately small to towering vertical assemblages, some reaching an astonishing height of 12 feet. The East Gallery of the museum will host the bulk of Pulley's creations, providing a captivating setting to experience his diverse work. Moreover, there will be an Art Crawl through downtown Lafayette which will tour the installation of several monumental sculptures within the community, enriching public spaces with Pulley's monumental vision.

This is a fast and fun one hour introduction to calligraphy in the Neuland Hand, a simple flexible modern style. For a $5.00 fee, adult and high school age students will get instruction, their own calligraphy pen to keep, practice materials, plus the materials for their first hand made greeting card. If there is enough interest, the class will be offered again later in the summer.

THE STORY: Pity poor Waldo Puppybreath! In the spirit of fearless journalism, he has written an editorial for the school paper suggesting that the proposed site for a new high school building is actually a swamp! The land speculator is not amused. The high school bully, a dead ringer for the Godfather, is muscling in on the Prom Queen Contest. And the biology teacher is demanding Waldo's resignation from the paper because it's interfering with his studies of the anatomy of a cat. In such trying times, Waldo draws strength from his comic book Wonder Heroes. So, when knocked out in a fight with the school Godfather, he enters a twilight world where all the characters of Act One are transformed into the colorful and totally unbelievable characters of Waldo's beloved comic books!

A fast-paced comic book farce with a zany romance, some rip-roaring chases, slapstick action and of course good triumphing over evil!

Hoosier Salon: The Early Years

The Haan Museum of Indiana Art in Lafayette is joining the Hoosier Art Salon to celebrate 100 years of excellence. Most of the works in the exhibition were in the Hoosier Salon between 1925 and 1952, and most of them won prizes. Estelle Peel Izor’s “Path to the River” is from the first Hoosier Salon exhibition in 1925.

A group of women who had moved from Indiana to Chicago organized a juried exhibition in Chicago of work by Indiana artists in 1925. It was so successful that they made it a highly-anticipated annual event, and named it the “Hoosier Salon”. It remained in Chicago until 1942, when it was moved to Indianapolis.

Having work deemed worthy of inclusion in the Salon was, and still is, considered an honor. Hoosier Group members T.C. Steele, J. Ottis Adams, William Forsyth and Otto Stark were among early participants in the Hoosier Salon.

Greg Kuharic: Bethel Pike Pottery Legatee

Opening reception June 13: Exhibition June 14 to August 17, 2024

This exhibition features high-fired stoneware by Hoosier potter Greg Kuharic, the first apprentice at Bethel Pike Pottery. The Pottery was founded by Alan Patrick and John Peterson in 1966, and Kuharic worked for them for seven years before opening his own studio.

After operating his own studio for ten years, Greg accepted a job as Vice President of 19th & 20th Century Decorative Arts at Sotheby’s in NY. He was also an appraiser on Antiques Road Show.

The exhibition includes Kuharic’s works ranging from large platters from his senior project at Ball State to his later vegetal forms. Some of the Alan Patrick and John Peterson's pieces will also be featured.

After more than four decades, 38 SPECIAL continues to bring their signature blast of Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year. At each and every show, thousands of audience members are amazed by the explosive power of the band's performance.

Their many Gold and Platinum album awards stand in testament to the endurance of a legendary powerhouse.

With sales in excess of 20 million, most associate the band with their arena-rock pop smashes, “Hold On Loosely,” “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Caught Up in You,” “Fantasy Girl,” “If I’d Been the One,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Chain Lightnin’,” “Second Chance,” and more–Timeless hits that remain a staple at radio, immediately recognizable from the first opening chord, and paving the way to their present-day touring regimen.

Guitarist/vocalist DON BARNES says it's all about maintaining that intensity in their live shows. “We never wanted to be one of those bands that had maybe gotten a little soft or complacent over the years. Get Together Thursdays is a multi-disciplinary program celebrating music, theater, and the written word. Our cozy gatherings will be held periodically throughout the year on the 4th Thursday of the month. In June a group of young hispanic dancers will join us in sharing their rich Mexican cultural heritage through dance. This childrens group group was formed in 2015 and has performed throughout the Lafayette area and on Purdue campus.

Historic Trades: Hand Quilting

Quilting can be used in blankets, pillows and garments. Choose to make either a patchwork pillow or an 1850’s sunbonnet. The basic techniques of quilting are simple; it’s the practice and tips and tricks along the way that make the difference! Learn these basics along with some tips and tricks as you make a basic 9-patch pillow top with a border and quilt it, then put it into a pillow (various fabric kits provided to choose from). Or learn the basics of quilting on the brim of a sunbonnet, then continue constructing the sunbonnet with a modern sewing machine. Learn cutting, piecing, putting layers together, and hand quilting. This one-day class is offered Saturday, June 1, 9:00 – 5:00 (with 1 hour lunch on your own) and will be held at Wabash and Erie Canal Park in the Fouts House. Participants need to bring fabric scissors, a heavy thimble that fits your middle finger, a pencil and (if making the sunbonnet) a sewing machine that you know how to use. Students must be at least 14 years old unless special permission is granted in advance. Teacher Becky Crabb has been quilting for 50 years. She taught many years with adult education, libraries and quilt shops, and was instilled with the love of quilts and quilting from both of her grandmothers. The total cost is $65, and you’ll get to take home your quilted creation! Register now to save your space, and indicate whether you are making a pillow or sunbonnet. Martha Mysko - Modern Moments

The Weather Station presents "Modern Moments," an exhibition of new work by Martha Mysko.

Martha Mysko is an artist whose complex paintings incorporate photographic imagery, readymade assemblage, a refined color palette with a thrift store aesthetic. For Modern Moments, Martha will transform the Weather Station, pushing the ecstatic mark-making of her paintings out of the frame and onto the walls of the space.

Martha Mysko is currently Artist in Residence and co-Head of the Painting Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art, based in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Join us for an opening reception of Martha's exhibition Friday, May 17th from 6-8pm. Modern Moments will remain on view during gallery hours (and by appointment) through May and June.
