Art Museum of Greater Lafayette

Opening Reception for SAQA & Bonnie Stahlecker Exhibits

May 2, 2025, 6:00 PM

Join us on May 2nd at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette for a special double-feature opening reception! We're excited to showcase two captivating exhibits: A Drop of Emerald Poison from the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) and Living on the Outer Edge of Hope by Bonnie Stahlecker. Enjoy complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres, generously provided by the Art League, and meet the artists behind the work.

A Drop of Emerald Poison features works from the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the art quilt as a fine art medium. SAQA's innovative collection highlights the creative use of fabric and stitching to create thought-provoking, layered works.

Living on the Outer Edge of Hope by Bonnie Stahlecker is a deeply personal exhibition inspired by her journey of anticipation and resilience. Using the boat shape as a metaphor, Bonnie’s work reflects both the optimism and struggles of navigating through challenging times, with pieces that explore themes of hope, resistance, and transformation.

Urinetown, The Musical

May 8, 2025, 7:30 PM

Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.

Lafayette Ballet Company

WONDER

May 20, 2025, 7:30 PM

Lafayette Country Club, Lafayette, IN

FÊTE de l'Horloge from Coppélia. (25 minutes) - This ballet dates from the mid 19th Century and is a treasure trove of beautiful music, subtle choreography and lush imagery. The young students of the Lafayette Ballet School are included in this celebration, to take pride in the tradition and to shine in the spotlight of accomplishment. Music by Léo Delibes. Choreography after Arthur Saint-Léon by Sandra Peticolas, Lisa Douglas, and Laura Moffat.

WONDER (35 minutes)

The world is in a period of turmoil. This ballet confronts this unrest with the opening of a Requiem by Borodin, and continuing with sources of both joy and struggle. It is a contemporary piece using the power of the group to portray our loss, our yearnings, our power of connection, and ultimately the wonder of the world. It is especially poignant in the presentations by our young dancers who themselves are on the brink of discovery. We wish them to find expression through their art and their work together. Music by Borodin, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, and Paderewski.

RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED AT LAFAYETTEBALLETCO@GMAIL.COM
