Spring and Summer Art Camps at BellinghamArt
Spring: April 2 - 9, morning and afternoon sessions
A great way over Spring Break for children and teenagers to create quality artwork. Everyone will use their creativity, learn new skills, and have fun drawing, painting, and creating art. The youngest artists will enjoy daily-narrated stories and music. Each Spring Art Camp will follow a creative seasonal theme and includes all art materials and tools, and a daily healthy snack.

Summer: Weekly, Monday thru Thursday, June 26 to August 3

Different sessions for age 6 through teens. You’ll create quality art and crafts while learning the basics of drawing and painting using acrylics, watercolor and pastels. A variety of projects use media such as sculpting, collage, block printing, scratch art and painting.

Artist Studio Communities: Understanding the Benefits and Exploring the Need in Bellingham
Thursday, April 26, 4pm
Final Location determined by class size, will either be held at the Allied Arts Gallery, 1418 Cornwall Ave, Downtown Bellingham, or The Bellingham Foundry, 1000 F Street

No matter the medium, every artist needs to create from a physical place. Many visual artists work from home, but they find it frustrating to be creative and productive, secluded from the society they want to connect with.

Creative communities (multiple private studios under one roof) can provide economic, cultural, and social benefits for artists. Many of us yearn for this type of work space if only we could find it. This presentation will share feedback from a survey of tenants and landlords describing the benefits they gained from creative communities. The discussion that follows will identify current artist studio communities that exist in our area, examine Bellingham’s ability to sustain more, and explore what a new one could look like.

All community members are welcome to join the session; if you’re an artist looking for studio space, bring a notepad and your ideas!
Artist Biographies & Résumés with Katy Hannigan
Saturday May 12, 1 – 3pm
At the Allied Arts Gallery, 1418 Cornwall Ave, Downtown Bellingham
Class Fee: FREE

Artist biographies and résumés are hard to write, but they’re important tools for artists working in any discipline. In this workshop, led by Artist Trust Program Manager Katy Hannigan, you’ll learn the difference between artist biographies and résumés, the basics of writing both, and how to create your own. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have the start of a résumé and biography to use for grant, residency, or fellowship applications, on your website, and/or in your portfolio.

This workshop is presented in partnership with Artist Trust.

Bellingham Sundial Mural Project Updates
Last year, the Bellingham Sundial Mural Project picked the winner of the international sundial mural design contest for the wall space on the northwest corner of Flora and Unity streets in downtown Bellingham: local mural artist Gretchen Leggitt. After a winter hiatus, the project is back on track. Earlier this March, project leader and professional sundialist Sasch Stephens found the gnomon center on the wall, and the artist hopes to begin painting this spring! Check out the newly updated webpage to learn how you can support this innovative art project, as well view exciting new sponsorship opportunities.

Online donations are now being accepted.
Call to Artists: 39th Annual Holiday Festival of the Arts
WHAT!?! But it just started to get sunny!!! But alas it is time to start thinking about this year's Holiday Festival.

The Holiday Festival of the Arts is a five-week-long indoor arts festival featuring 100 artisans from our region. Aside from vendors selling their wares, the festival boasts live music and art workshops for children on the weekends.

The twofold purpose of the Holiday Festival is to encourage and support the creation and sale of locally produced fine art and crafts while providing an opportunity to connect artists and craftspeople with the general public. This juried festival pursues top quality original arts and crafts and seeks excellence in presentation. Festival proceeds support the visual arts in the region through Allied Arts of Whatcom County’s general and educational programs, community outreach, arts events, gallery shows, and artist resources.
