Open Craft Night
Date: Wednesday, July 27th, 6:00-8:00pm
Come craft in community at Ragfinery's Open Craft Night! Bring your projects, supplies and creativity, and craft to your heart's content. Basic sewing support is provided.
Instructor: Staff member will be on hand for basic sewing support.
Cost: FREE!

Sewing Bootcamp
Dates: Saturdays, August 6th and 13th 10:00am-1pm (two consecutive Saturdays)
Learn to upcycle your own clothes in this beginning sewing "bootcamp" series!
Instructor: Brigitte Parra
Cost: $75

Teen Upcycle Fashion Design
Dates: Aug 8-12th (Monday-Friday), 10am-2pm
Ages: 12-18
Spend the week learning the entire process of upcycle fashion design, from envisioning, to selecting materials, to putting it all together and showing it off!

Cost: $230 (includes $10 materials fee)

Summer Art Sculpture Camp
Details: In this exciting summer art camp, kids will learn how to make a sculpture based on an animal of their choice, and use skills in planning, hand-building clay, armature, & paints! We'll also have a special 1-day workshop at the Foundry Makerspace to learn how to make a 3D printed art work that each student will take home. Rachel Simpson instructs.
Ages: 10 - 14 years

Mixed-Media Art Camp
Details: Our Mixed-Media art camp will be an amazing in-depth process of learning about painting & collage. Students will learn how to use a photograph of their choice to inspire creativity into making a colorful mixed-media painting. Rachel Simpson instructs with a wide variety of items ranging from paints, stamps, and pastels, to recycled papers, textiles, and crafts.
Ages: 7-10 years

Kids College this Summer at Whatcom Communty College

Paint Like Monet!
Discover how to make oil pastels look like paintings with the use of blending and other techniques in this fun art class. You'll learn the history of Monet and his impressionist paintings, including his famous haystacks. Applying your newfound oil pastel skills, you will create your very own Monet Haystack painting! $15 materials fee payable to instructor at first class. Designed for ages 6 - 12.
When: July 19th - July 22nd, 10:00am - 12:00pm
Heroes & Heroines: Altered Art Books! 
Take an old book and upcycle it into your very own themed book based on your favorite hero, heroine, or even villain. In this mixed-media art class, we will take your book's original pages and alter them with drawing, painting, collage, and even cut-outs such as secret boxes, patterns, and symbols of your chosen character. $15 materials fee payable to instructor at first class. Come to the first class with your chosen hero, heroine, or villian and 2-3 colored pages of images of your chosen character. Designed for ages 13 - 18.
When: July 25th - 28th, 10:00am - 12:00pm
July Closures
The Allied Arts Gallery, Thrift Store and office will be closed July 2nd - 4th in observance of Independence Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, July 5th at 10am. Have a happy and safe 4th of July!

Cooper Lanza's latest solo art exhibition,"Twins," is showing at Tillie Lace Gallery in Bellingham, WA. In her artist statement, Cooper writes: "This series is a 
 
fun collection of doubles. "Twins" is about the duality I think that we all feel within us... the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly."

The dates for this show are July 2, 2016 through August 31, 2016. The gallery is located at 1415 13th St in Fairhaven. Tillie Lace Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Tel. 1-360-223-5352.

 Chalk It Up!

The City of Blaine is hosting the first annual Chalk It Up! Blaine on July 9, 2016. This event will include creation of a community wall mural. Blaine resident and acclaimed chalk artist Brian Major will create a "chalk by numbers" mural for completion by community members. Children and adults should visit the Pizza Factory parking lot between 10am and 3pm on July 9th to join in the fun (corner Peace Portal Drive and H Street).

While community members create the wall mural, teen artists will be creating sidewalk art based on the event's theme, "By the Sea." Artists will create their sidewalk art during the course of the day, with the art to be completed by 2pm. You are encouraged to come by and watch the artists in action, and to vote on your favorite art piece to win the "community choice award." The sidewalk art will be on display for several days, weather permitting.

Teen artists entering grades 9-12 this fall are encouraged to submit an entry by
 July 5 th for consideration. Artists should visit the City's website ( www.cityofblaine.com) to download an entry form. Cash prizes will be awarded in a variety of categories.
This is a free event sponsored by the City of Blaine and the Chamber of Commerce.
 
Thanks to a grant from the Blaine Tourism Advisory Committee, Chalk It Up! Blaine will kick off a series of events this summer including a recurrence of the popular Splash Days fun coming on August 5th and 12th

.


Elemental: Sculpture of Fire, Air, Water & Earth at Sculpture Northwest
June 3 - July 30th

Journey underwater, into the sky, through valleys and to the depths of mother earth's forge in Sculpture Northwest's upcoming exhibition Elemental. Artists skillfully source motifs and materials from the natural world as inspiration and create enchanting representations of the four elements.
 
Downtown Sounds 
Wednesdays during July 6 - August 3

Sponsored by The Beauty Institute Schwarzkopf Professional, is a series of free, outdoor concerts for the entire family celebrated in the Arts District on the 1300 block of Bay Street. Each night will feature performances by popular bands, local food vendors, and a 21+ beverage garden supported by Boundary Bay Brewery. Downtown Sounds continues to grow in its 13th year, firmly cementing its place as Whatcom County's biggest urban outdoor music festival. Visit their website for more information.


Fairhaven Steampunk Festival & The Fantastical Mr. Flip's Carnival of Wonders and Curiosities 
Saturday, July 23

The Fantastical Mr. Flip's Carnival of Wonders and Curiosities -- a Bellingham Steampunk festival and "spectacular showcase of music, art, and literature"--celebrates its fifth year in Fairhaven in 2016! The festival will be delivering the "strange and wondrous" through a menagerie of musicians, authors, local entertainment, vendors, costume contests, presentations, games and more. Located at the Fairhaven Village Green from 10 am to 5 pm.
