Greetings from Dartington where for the past three weeks we've been in the midst of our annual Summer School of music, with hundreds of amateur and professional musicians coming together to learn from each other, collaborate, make connetions and explore new repertoire. In the final week (starting tomorrow) the focus shifts to a more modern and contemporary zone, with free improvisation, electronics and a cohort of contemporay composers, all following in the footsteps of previous innovators. We will be channelling the likes of Igor Stravinsky and the UK's first serialist composer Elisabeth Lutyens, through to Italian radicals like Luigi Nono and Luciano Berio, and the inimitable Harrison Birtwistle, all of whom tried out new work in this playground of experimentation. If you are around, next week is a great time to come and visit us to soak up this atmosphere and get a feel for life at Dartington!

Once the Summer School wraps up we'll have a couple of weeks down time before Master's students return for the start of the next iteration of MA Poetics of Imagination in September, while Arts and Place and Arts and Ecology students continue to work through the modules and residencies both here and further afield.
