Arts Thrive at ANDRUS

The arts (creativity and imagination) + children = pride + pleasure + self-expression. How thrilled we are that the arts are thriving at ANDRUS.

  • Early Learning Center: The Carter Arts Wing at our Tuckahoe childcare center includes a children's art studio and theater- all being put to full use. A grant from ArtsWestchester brought a ceramicist for a ten week session with our 3-5 year olds. In April a volunteer quilting expert began teaching her craft to our little ones. Thanks to a wonderful partnership with Concordia Conservatory, our children can take advantage of Suzuki violin lessons as well as music instruction.
  • ArtsWestchester has also funded the Orchard School's Dance Therapy program. Once a week, groups of students work with a dance therapist who teaches a variety of contemporary dance techniques. As Colette Smith, a music teacher at the Orchard School explained, "Our students will bring a wonderful new form of creative self-expression to the May Spring Concert."
Student Athlete Visits ANDRUS

Khalil Edney is best known for making the one in a million winning shot for his New Rochelle High School basketball team, but he also has a close connection to ANDRUS. His father, Lewis, is an employee in our Facilities department. Khalil has visited the Orchard School on previous occasions but we knew we had to invite him back to share his latest triumph with our students.

Here is recent press coverage of his visit:
