The Franklin Performing Arts Company, an Actors' Equity Small Professional Theater company, offers performances of Tarzan on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at THE BLACK BOX. Ticket information is included in this newsletter. Enjoy!

As you read through the newsletter you'll find a movie at the Senior Center, Painting at Creative Corner Art Studio, knitting (and more) at the Library, music at 3 Restaurant, and a Saturday that is overflowing with activities. From the Library to the Pop-Up Museum, Winter Farmers Market, Master Plan Committee, Book Sale, Rise Up Meeting, live theater with TARZAN at THE BLACK BOX and a silent movie, The Lodger, at the Historical Museum, the day is overflowing with arts and culture!

The end of the newsletter includes a look at April and May .. so many opportunities to experience arts and culture in Franklin!

Artsy Box Project ‘24 Artists Selected!!!

 

The Franklin Cultural District Committee is happy to announce this year’s artists. The Artsy Box Project has been funded by the Mass Cultural Council and Town of Franklin to support our public art initiative for the Cultural District. This year, we selected 6 new locations to add onto the catalog for the community to explore. We encourage the community to interact with the art by taking photos and tagging us with your visits to show support for our growing of the arts in Franklin. We are on Facebook and Instagram under Franklin Culture. We are using #ArtsyBox24 for this year’s collection. Stay tuned to learn more about each artist, art creation and location each week as we feature a new artist in our newsletter. We will also be sharing interviews through Franklin Matters with Stephen Sherlock.

 

The Franklin Cultural District thanks the community of artists who made submissions and others who reached out in support of this project. The selected artists are as follows:

Saturday, March 16. 10:00am to 11:00am, Rise Up meeting at Franklin United Methodist Church. Franklin Police Department will be guest speakers and address personal safety with a disability. The Franklin United Methodist Church is located at 82 West Central St.

Saturday, March 16, 10:00 am to 2:00pm, Winter Farmers Market at Fairmount Fruit Farm with multiple vendors.

10:00am to 12:00pm Tree Pruning Instruction. Farmer CJ will run this hands-on workshop where you will learn how to properly prune and care for fruit trees in our orchard. Bring your pruning items from home and get them professionally sharpened for free! Ticketed Event $30

Saturday, March 16, 11:00am to 12:30pm, Beyond the Palmer Method – Learn about calligraphy at the Franklin Historical Museum.

Learn about this useful artform and get an introduction to creating calligraphy. Meet our resident expert in penmanship, cursive writing methods, and calligraphy, Krishna Swain! and "Words written in calligraphy have defined thousands of years of our history. In this program, we will dive into the history of the art form, particularly in America, and learn how to create beautiful calligraphy." Select Museum for information. Saturday, March 16, 3:00pm, Irish in America concert at Franklin Public Library. A musical journey celebrating the ‘Irish in America ‘, for all ages! Irish immigrants captured the heart of the nation with their mix of Irish jigs, ballads, folk songs, storytelling and humor. Select Library for more information. Saturday, March 16, 6:00 pm, Silent Saturday at Franklin Historical Museum ... Cinema 80 Silent Saturday, "The Lodger". In one of his first thrillers, Alfred Hitchcock paints a picture of paranoia and suspicion with clever camerawork and editing, as a killer stalks the streets of London. The films are presented by Chris. Leverone, a videographer and graphics artist from Franklin, has directed promotional and fundraising videos, and is currently a producer at Franklin TV. Wednesday March 13. Children can connect with their bodies, minds, and spirits in a 6-week Yoga and Mindfulness Class starting Wednesday March 13th at 4:30 pm (grades 3-5) or 5:30 pm (grades 6-8). Did you also know that Franklin is deciding to celebrate Earth during the entire month of April? If not, now you do! Come join us on April 4 for our Earth month kickoff with a COSMIC CELEBRATION to learn about the centennial solar eclipse, other celestial bodies, and how Earth kicks it with the stars. Inspired by The Moth Radio Hour, the theme of the night is “Surprises.” What’s Your Story? is a family-friendly event hosted by the First Universalist Society in Franklin in our beautiful meetinghouse.
