Creating Balance Through Dance - Winona ISD

Lauren Hinch, our lead dance instructor, has been making HUGE improvements to the dance program at Winona ISD! This program has been integrated into ALL 3 campuses and is embedded into the fabric of the school community by providing more performance opportunities than ever before. To showcase some highlights, the elementary after school dance program hosted their Christmas Showcase with Christmas themed dances and middle and high school dance class students attended the Rangerette Christmas Show for their field trip in December. They are currently preparing for their end of year showcase!

Tom's Fun Band visits NE TEXAS!

Tom Wilbeck of Tom's Fun Band visited northeast Texas this week and shared joyful music experiences around topics like: "Musical Celebration", "The Science of Sound", and "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle".

Did you know that in addition to being a children's musical artist, Tom is a licensed counselor and also a published author of the book "7 Lessons from an Unlikely Teacher" recounting 7 stories, through his work with young children, that have taught him major lessons?

Tom offers engaging and educational experiences for our young students, has been a keynote speaker for several events and provides a variety of professional development opportunities for teachers!

We feel so fortunate when Tom visits us here in northeast Texas!

Dru Woods will be visiting Marshall ISD for a week long residency, March 4th-8th. She will be working in the classroom with 2nd graders using her program "Cinderella Meets the Muppet's: Telling Fractured Fairy Tales with Puppets". Students will develop writing skills, creativity, and an understanding of compare & contrast concepts while fracturing existing fairy tales. This hands-on adventure will have students analyzing, writing, and enhancing their stories through puppet building. The culmination of their work will be displayed through a puppet performance for their peers.

Mark Shelton is bringing his entertaining and educational program, "The Strike, Scrape, & Shake Show™" to the students at Brown Elementary in ISD on March 19th! This is a high-energy, one-man assembly program that will teach students about the percussion family as they enjoy Mark playing Snare Drums, the Hammered Dulcimer, the Doumbek, the Handpan, the Handsonic, and more. The audience gets into the act with as Mark talks about the history of percussion.

Lucas Miller, "The Singing Zoologist" is coming back to northeast Texas in April! For 3 days, he will be working with G/T students at Region 7 ESC through workshops, performances, and hands on coaching. He will also be bringing his performance programs filled with music and engaging science lessons that deepen understanding to two schools in Tyler ISD!

Mexico 2000, Fiestas de Mexico is a fan favorite and northeast Texas can't get enough. They will be coming to Tyler on May 3rd to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Their program is energetic, colorful, and imaginative. They love that they get to help preserve the history of Mexico through stories, dance, and music!

We have resident teaching artists that teach dance, music, brass, and drumline either in school or after school!

Check out these drumline students from Caldwell Arts Academy led by our teaching artist, Casey Muze!
