News, Life, and the Art Culture in the Smoky Mountains
Hello!
Tiffani here. For those who haven’t met me, I’m behind our website and social media accounts, but you’ve probably seen me in the gallery if you’ve been by in the last year or so. Carrie’s with family, so I’ll fill you in on all the latest.
If you remember last month’s newsletter, Carrie had been with her mother in her final days. Sadly, Carrie’s mother passed away last Thursday. Carrie was with her mother, Sarah, in her final days and will return to the gallery soon. You can read her mother’s obituary here.

For those who have been following our social media pages, it’s been a month of Margaret Roberts. We hope you’ve enjoyed our frequently changing show and all 21+ (!!!) of her brand new pieces this month.
The response we’ve seen from so many of you, including new fans, has been amazing over the last several weeks. We are so thankful for all of you who stopped by to look, brought your friends and made purchases, and we know Margaret is too!

Now that our “Month of Margaret” is coming to an end, September is around the corner, and with it we will feature hot wax encaustic artist t.e. siewert.
t.e. siewert, or teri, a former RN turned artist, will bring with her a collection of new works. In an effort to not encourage indoor gathering during the pandemic Twigs & Leaves is not participating in Art After Dark. However, we will have an in-house demo on Saturday, September 5th from 11-3 pm with a Facebook Live demo at 1pm the same day.

Swing by downtown Waynesville for safe viewing or keep an eye our Facebook page for a peek at teri’s demo at 1pm.

And now for something completely new ...
Starting Monday, September 7th, Twigs & Leaves Gallery will host a virtual coffee/tea/whatever date with all of you on Facebook. #MugShotMonday will take place every first Monday of the month. Don’t worry, we’ll remind you! When you see our post asking you to share your #mugshots, grab your favorite brew, take a picture, and add it to our comments section. That’s it!

Then sit back and watch where everyone is around the state, country and even world, all enjoying a cup together. Bonus points if we see Twigs & Leaves mugs!
That’s it from our end … be sure to check out some of the upcoming events below and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!
Stay safe! Tiffani

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST:

Jeannie Shuckstes
For those of us who have had the pleasure of meeting Jeannie Shuckstes, we all know you can’t help but smile and be happy around our Village Framer. And if you haven’t met her, you’re missing out, so here’s your chance to drop in and say hi!

Jeannie is the owner and framer extraordinaire at “Village Framer” located on Main Street in downtown Waynesville. Jeannie traveled around the world before landing here in Waynesville where she apprenticed under Claudia Ogden, the previous owner of the Village Framer. For eight years Jeannie learned the art of framing before being offered the opportunity to take over the business as her own. Village Framer has been here on Main Street for 30 years!

A painter herself, Jeannie enjoys creating florals and landscapes in oils and working with our vibrant artist community. Jeannie thanks you all for an opportunity to work with you making frames and being a part of this wonderful Smoky Mountain community. Jeannie offers affordable prices for custom one-of-a-kind framing. Stop by 56 N. Main next time you’re downtown!

You can order frames from Jeannie’s site here.
Save The Date...
September Featured Artist:
t.e. siewert
t.e. always knew she had an artist’s heart. She raised 5 children while working as an RN for 27 years but continued to dream of being an artist. In 2007, she started Wallchemy, a decorative finishes business in Orlando, where she studied with the top designers, finishers and artists in the country. A chance visit to Asheville’s RAD in 2010, where she saw encaustic for the first time, was the springboard for a life change. Inspired by the words of poet e.e. cummings, “...remember one thing only: that it's you-nobody else-who determines your destiny and decides your fate. Nobody else can be alive for you; nor can you be alive for anybody else.”, she moved to the mountains and devoted all her time to painting with wax mediums. This led to the development of a signature series of ethereal landscapes and abstract paintings that have found new homes in private collections all over the country. t.e. hopes all will be inspired to find their muse(s) and be alive!
