As We Journey

Faith Development Newsletter

This Sunday (8/23): A wonderful opportunity for families to connect with your First UU community!

Our annual Blessing of the Animals is happening on the First UU lawn (weather permitting).

No matter your age, you are invited to bring your beloved animals: plush ones, living pets, and/or images of those who have passed away. We'll be blessing them all!

Invite your neighbors and friends. We'll have cleaning supplies available if you need to pick up after your friend. Hope to see you there!

2026-27 Faith Development Registration

Help us prepare to welcome your children by registering them now for the 2026/27 program year

Whether they’re infants and toddlers who might try the Nursery, teenagers who will join us for a pizza lunch, OWL students, or partakers of the Sunday morning exploration groups - registration helps staff plan the best possible programming for them.

Thank you to all who have already registered! If you haven’t yet, please follow this link to do so.

Interested in 7th & 8th Grade OWL?

Is there is a child in your life entering 7th or 8th grade, or the home-school equivalent? Would they benefit from the comprehensive sexuality education provided by the Our Whole Lives program? If so, now is the time to let us know (and find out more) by filling out this OWL Interest Form!

Contact Mary Anthony at OWL@uusociety.org with any questions, and find out more about OWL in general, here.

Help Us Grow Our Faith Development Volunteer Team!

One of my favorite parts of working in Faith Development is getting to know your kids! It's awesome to see what they create, how they're drawn to and make sense of UU values, hear the questions they ask, and witness the ways they play & connect with one another. Supporting kid-centered programming is such rewarding (and fun!) work, and it takes a community of helping hands to make it happen.

All this to say...we are looking to grow our team of volunteers!

There are lots of ways to get involved:

  • You can sign up for a one-and-done role, help out occasionally, or take on a more regular role.
  • Volunteer in your own child's exploration group or switch things up and try another age group!
  • Have teens? Come hang with the little ones! Maybe you secretly (or not so secretly) miss playing with legos, crafting with cardboard, reading picture books, and seeing things through the eyes of a 5 year old.
  • Support a Chalice Choice activity or service project, chaperone a field trip, or join the teens for pizza & games at a YUUTH Lunch.
  • Learn alongside our 5th-8th graders as they explore a variety of religions and spiritual practices throughout the year.

You don't need to be a teacher, UU expert, or spend time preparing beforehand. Just come ready to show up, have fun, be curious, and help create a welcoming and safe space.

We know Sunday morning services are an important chance in the week for you all as parents & caregivers to be in community, connect with other adults, and have space for yourself to spiritually reset. Volunteering weekly is not the expectation at all. It might look like helping once or twice a month, every few months, or more or less depending on your schedule. What helps us most is having volunteers who are willing to sign up for dates ahead of time when they know they're available.

So... if you're thinking: maybe I could help this year, we'd love to hear from you!

Curious, but would like to learn more first? Come to our Volunteer Orientation & Safety Training on August 30th, 11:30-1pm. Lunch and childcare provided! No commitment required to attend. RSVP and learn more here.

Can’t make it to the training, but are interested in volunteering? Respond to this email or reach out to mo@uusociety.org.

Let me know if you have any questions and thank you for considering!
