As We Journey!

Faith Development newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians of First UU:

FUUSB kicked off the holiday season today with a super fun 90th Annual Bazaar and luncheon! It was great seeing so many of you there to shop, eat and help out; there were so many volunteers, but I want to offer a special thanks to the children and youth who did an amazing job as lunch servers and sales people!

I caught some young adult volunteers taking a break in our children's library; you're never too old for a good story!

You can find details about upcoming Sundays some of our other special holiday plans below.

See you on Sunday!

Erika

Tomorrow, December 7:

We will begin with Family Chapel in the Community Room. During our time together we'll be practicing some of the songs for the upcoming field trip .

As requested by the kids in the Building UU Values group, it will be pajama day for PreK-3rd grades and anyone else who wants to wear their coziest clothes to the UU! (Really, you can wear your coziest clothes to the UU any day, but it's always more fun when we do it together!)

If you have youth in 8th-12th grade, the plan is to stay late (until 12:30) and have lunch together, hopefully with some of the older youth staff joining in!

December 14:

Will be an all-ages service trip to bring cheer and community to our homebound neighbors at the Cathedral Square Assisted Living Center. Volunteer chaperones and Faith Development staff will escort children and youth on a walking trip to sing secular "carols" with the residents there.

For children 5 and under we may need a caregiver to come along, depending on how comfortable your child is with us and how well staffed we are on that morning (we're going for overstaffed, but in this season of coughs and sniffles it is hard to know in advance.)

We'll be leaving the Sanctuary at approximately 10:10, taking attendance and hitting the bathrooms to be out the door by 10:15, so please try to come on time if you will be joining us. We're hoping to return by 11:15, but asking for your grace if we are as late as 11:30. Permission slips will be required.

Sadly OWL students will need to miss this trip - their group meets from 10-11:15.

December 21:

will be our annual multigenerational Solstice Celebration. There are volunteer roles available for children and youth including speaking parts, as well as some non-speaking roles so please check your family calendars to see if you plan to attend and let us know if your children would like a role. [New: I am seeking several youth, 6th grade or older to read a poem together. Please reach out with interest to erika@uusociety.org.]

December 24:

For those who celebrate Christmas, FUUSB has three Christmas Eve services, the first of which is the family-centered "No Rehearsal Pageant" 4pm service. We will need several adult volunteers to make this joyfully chaotic evening work, so if you plan to be in town and are able to help, please sign-up using the link below. While there are no rehearsals, we like to have actors sign up for the lead roles in advance, so we don't have to scramble too much on that evening; use the link below to claim a part. We have a Mary and Joseph but still need a Caesar to sign up in advance! (Several other speaking parts available).

Game Night!

Game Night: Winter Break Addition!

Friday January 2, 5-8 pm

The Faith Development Team has decided to offer a Game night at the tail end of winter break and we hope you can make it!

This is truly for people of all ages! We have lots of games at the ready, but feel free to bring the one you want to play. In the past we've done Dominoes, Ticket to Ride, Rumikub, Azul, group card games, Pictionary, and more. There are generally several things going at once.

It's okay to come with a group of friends and the intention to play a particular game. You can bring children and play with them or have them play with childcare staff while you try out a game with an older crowd. Make it what you want!

We'll have a "no-stress" potluck; you can wow us with your culinary skills or pick up a loaf of bread and a tub of hummus from the market. The point is to have fun together and not go hungry. We'll have coffee, decaf and tea available, dishes and utensils.

Come for a little bit or stay the whole time. Come ready to make new friends and reconnect with the old!
