Hi there, Friend!
November is such a beautiful month at Arcosanti. We're loving the glowing leaves, as well as the sunny days, starry nights, and perfect seventy-degree weather. Plus, we're only days away from Thanksgiving, Giving Tuesday, our new Executive Director's first day, and a whole new season of projects, programs, and possibilities.

Taking Good Care of Cosanti + Arcosanti
Ongoing renovations and site improvements continue to take center stage at Cosanti and Arcosanti. There are dozens of projects underway, and these are a few of the big ones.
The much-awaited reopening of the café at Arcosanti is slated for December, once the concrete slab we poured this week has time to set and the new flooring and lighting are laid in. (The creation of the form work for the slab is what you see here.)
At Cosanti, we're replacing the old ceramics kiln and gearing up for a major renovation of the Pink House—a.k.a. the original Doubletree Ranch house and the historic home of the Soleri family. That's expected to be complete by early 2022, when it will become Cosanti's main offices and we can get underway with renovations of the Pumpkin Apse and Barrel Vaults.
Last but not least, at Arcosanti, thanks to the generosity of Hurtado Zimmerman SC, we're about to start upgrading the wiring in both our main office and Ceramics Apse, as well as installing a second kiln.
Thank you to everyone who's rolled up their sleeves to make these renovations happen, and to all the donors whose gifts make it possible!

Save the Dates for Spring
|
2022 is filling up fast. We're putting the finishing touches on program plans for the first half of of the year, with three 6-week winter and spring workshops, a 4-part lecture series, 8 unique dinners with Cloth+Flame, two weeks of 1-day arcology experiences for parents and kids, and at least one very special event:
Earth Day Weekend 2022, April 22-24:
Arco/Cosanti Alumni + Friends Reunion
Details are still coming together, but the dates are firm. This gathering will be the first of its kind in more than 10 years, and we can't wait to see you there. To be the first to know as plans evolve, social media is the place to be.

It's no secret that the Arcosanti road is a problem. So is the erosion around the edges of our mesa, the Agua Fria's changing riverbanks, the carbon footprint of concrete, and more. What do all these issues have in common?
Geology.
That's where CBBG comes in.
Over the last few months, we've been building a relationship with The Center for Bio-mediated and Bio-inspired Geotechnics. CBBG is a consortium of university faculty and graduate students from Arizona State University, Georgia Tech, New Mexico State University, and UC Davis, funded by the National Science Foundation. CBBG exists to tackle urban geological problems like ours through innovative science.
In October, Cosanti Foundation staff John Walsh, Scott Riley, Kate Bemesderfer, and Simon Lagneaux presented at CBBG's annual meeting. The presentation included an overview of Arcosanti as an urban laboratory, and 5 case studies for possible CBBG projects:
- The Arcosanti Road
- Stormwater/River Erosion
- Manmade/Mesa Erosion
- Wastewater Reuse & Agriculture
- New Structural Fabrication
In the meantime, see what it's all about.
