We're less than two weeks away from the August 4 primary election in Kansas. Let’s get out the vote together! Here are three ways you can make a big impact:
1. Talk to Friends about Voting

2. Join a Phone Bank
Help remind voters to make a plan. You can volunteer your time or earn $50 for completing a phone bank shift. Be sure to select ‘The Voter Network’ from the drop-down menu when you sign up!

3. Make Your Voting Plan
Whether you're voting by mail, voting early, or voting on Election Day, now's the time to make your plan.

• If you've already got your advance ballot, complete and return your ballot as soon as possible. ***NEW THIS YEAR: All advance/vote-by-mail ballots must be received by the close of Election Day.***

Love, Serve, Lead!! That is the theme for this year's Youth Sunday, which will be held at both the 9 and 11 am services on Sunday, August 16. Youth will be leading worship and sharing about their experiences on their service trips, in Leadership Lab, and at Institute.
There will be a potluck brunch held at 10 am during the Sunday School hour in Hager Hall. All are welcome to join us!
| | Bids & BBQ Fundraiser for the Asbury Children's Center: Friday, August 28 | |
Join us for the Asbury Children’s Center's annual Bids & BBQ Fundraiser! This event will be held on Fri. Aug. 28 from 5:30-8:00 pm at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center.
Tickets are $50 (plus processing fee for online purchases) and include 3 BBQ meats, sides, drinks, beer & wine. Dinner starts at 6:00 pm and the live auction starts at 6:30 pm.
Tickets will also be on sale in the Welcome Center starting in August. We will have some fantastic items to bid on!! We can’t wait to see you there for fellowship and fun! There will also be an online silent auction running from August 23-30.
If you have any new items or services that you would like to donate, or would like to make a monetary contribution, please contact ACC Director Ann Porter at annp@visitasbury.org. All donations will go towards improvements at the ACC.
| | UWF Spotlight Speaker Event: Sunday, August 30 | |
Join Asbury United Women in Faith to hear Kelli Badgerow, LMSW from Save, Inc. on Sunday, August 30 at 10 am in Hager Hall. (Kelli is the daughter of Asbury member Nancy Bernhardt!)
Kelli will discuss how Save, Inc. provides comprehensive housing solutions that empower socially and medically disadvantaged individuals in the Kansas City area. Save, Inc. offers permanent and transitional housing assistance to nearly 2,000 individuals each year. Their mission emphasizes that housing is a basic human right, aiming to improve health and stability for those in need.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about the impactful work being done in our community. We encourage everyone to attend and engage in this important conversation about housing and dignity!

We need five volunteers to assist in the Lazarus Boutique. As a volunteer, you’ll act as a personal shopper, helping guests find clothing, hygiene items, linens, and other essential goods.

Now through August 9, Asbury United Women in Faith (UWF) will be collecting new school supplies for students at Santa Fe Trail Elementary!
What to Bring: Check out the list of needed supplies at our table in the Welcome Center.
Drop-off Location: Look for the blue barrel labeled "School Supplies" to donate your items.
Prefer to donate monetarily? Checks can be made out to "Asbury UWF" with "school supplies" in the memo line. Every little bit helps our local students succeed!

| | Asbury Serve Day at the Hub Argentine: Saturday, August 29 | |
Join us on Saturday, August 29 from 9:30 am - 12 pm for a meaningful serve day at The Hub Argentine (3730 Metropolitan Ave, Kansas City, KS 66106). We need 15 volunteers to help make a difference in our community!
This serve day is open to all ages, with plenty of opportunities for school-aged kids, families, and individuals of all abilities. It’s a great way to connect, serve, and grow together in faith!

The Asbury Endowment Committee will be accepting 2026 Third Quarter grant applications beginning August 1. Asbury endowed funds are underwriting grants of up to $1000!
Individuals, committees, and small groups are encouraged to use these grants to create, enhance, or sustain mission and ministries within the Asbury faith community.

| | Youth Service Trips & Pilgrimages Fundraiser: 144 Envelopes | | |
There's a big board with 144 envelopes attached to it on the wall by the west entrance of the Sanctuary, representing monetary amounts from $1-$144 ($10,441 in all). If all the envelopes are selected, returned, and donations match the amount on each envelope, we will meet our fundraising goals for both the service trips, along with some money to put toward the 2027 Pilgrimages!
Here's how the fundraiser works:
• You decide the amount you would like to give to support the youth service trips and Leadership Lab Pilgrimages to Turkey to follow Paul's travels.
• Select the corresponding envelope(s). For example, if you want to give $50 select envelope #50, or if 50 is no longer available, select envelopes that equal $50.
• Fill out the little card inside the envelope.
• Return the card, your donation, and the envelope to the church. It can be given to Phyllis at the front desk or placed in the offering plate or drop box outside of the finance office.

You will also find blank envelopes on the counter next to the big board where you can make a donation, if the envelopes left on the board do not reflect the amount you would like to give. Or you may give any amount via EasyTithe. If you give online, please select "Youth Missions Trips" from the drop-down menu.

Volunteer Opportunities
I’ve always loved the month of August. It is a time of transition. We look ahead to the promise of cooler weather and big yellow school buses returning to the streets. And, as the days shorten, structure and rhythm replace the long evenings of fireflies and front porches.
For our school-age children, this can be a time of excitement or stress; a time of new friends or falling into the background shadows. Two unique Kansas City agencies are working to provide these students and families with support, and they need volunteers!
First, The Hub Argentine is looking for after-school program volunteers. This is a one-hour weekly after-school commitment. You will spend direct one-on-one time with two students for a full semester. Just one hour each week will make a tremendous difference for a student and family needing this after-school structure. Second is The Birthday Connection. They are looking for flexible, “last-minute” helpers. The Birthday Connection is a nonprofit that works through social service providers to gather everything a family needs to celebrate a child's birthday. Custom boxes are assembled and delivered to the social service agency, which are then sent on to the family.
For children living in poverty, birthdays are often overlooked. Yet, we know, for children, birthdays are not frivolous! You can learn more about this volunteer opportunity by clicking HERE.

All parents and other adults are invited to our next book club on Tuesday, August 25 at 7 pm in the Prayer Room. We will be discussing our summer read, Dancing in the Darkness: Spiritual Lessons for Thriving in Turbulent Times, by Otis Moss III.

We hope you will join us with your backpack for a special back-to-school blessing and gift for all kids and teachers on Sunday, August 9 at either the 9 am or 11 am service.
We know the start of the school year can be filled with many different emotions, and we want to help all our young people and teachers start the year off great!

Elementary aged children will learn about the scripture lesson from worship in a hands-on and age-appropriate way. We'll begin at 10:30 am, join worship at 11 am, participate in the children's time, and then return upstairs to continue our hands-on activities.

9 am: The nursery is open for children who need it, up to 3rd grade.
11 am: The Nursery is open for children aged infant through 5-years-old (if they haven’t started Kindergarten yet). Children who have started Kindergarten are encouraged to join Children's Church.

Kids PreK - 3rd grade are welcome to join us for Children's Church after the Children's Moment at the 11 am service in the kids' wing (3rd floor east).
We might make a craft, play a game, watch a movie, or learn a new song and dance. No matter the activity, kids will have fun learning and growing together!

All PreK-5th grade children are invited to participate in our Sunday, September 27 Kids' Sing. We will be singing a song from our Snowball Mountain Challenge VBS. Rehearsals will be Sunday, September 13 and Sunday, September 20 following the children's time at the 11 am service. Kids will be dismissed from service to rehearse with Ms. Alicia Wolff.

We encourage all youths, especially those who served this summer, are part of Leadership Lab, or went to Institute, to help lead both the 9 am and 11 am services on Sunday, August 16.
Youth will share about their experiences on the service trips, in Leadership Lab, and at Institute. There will be a brunch for all at 10 am during the Sunday School hour in Hager Hall.
Youth can play something, read something, usher, greet, help with the children's time, or something else. If you/your youth would like to participate, please let Heather Jackson know ASAP. We will be planning during youth group at 6 pm this Sunday.
