This coming Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday and we are going to focus on the words of Paul to the community in Corinth as we prepare our hearts for the Lenten season.
Listen to Pastor Jeff talk more about what's in store at Asbury in his video this week!
The west elevator by the main entrance & front office is temporarily out of order. We anticipate the part needed for repairs hopefully arriving sometime on Friday.
For those needing an accessible entrance, we will keep you posted if you need to use a different entrance into the church on Sunday morning.
Come join in our Asbury Souper Bowl beginning Sunday, Feb. 4 and continuing through Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 11.
We have a fun table in the Welcome Center set up with a bracket game with the following Food Pantry-favorites competing for the title of CHIEF SOUP: Chunky Chicken Noodle, Chunky Sirloin Beef, Chili (meat or meatless), and Clam Chowder.
Of course, any soups can be donated - the ones listed above are just the most popular with our guests! All will be donated to the Asbury Community Food Pantry.

KanCare Expansion Presentation: Thursday, Feb. 29 at 7:00 pm
Did you know that an estimated 150,000 Kansans fall into a health coverage gap? They earn too much to qualify for KanCare (the Kansas Medicaid program), but make too little to receive federal subsidies to buy private insurance.
As United Methodists, our call is to advocate for policies that promote access to health care, including mental health and addiction resources (United Methodist Social Principles, 162.V). In this spirit, our Church and Society team is happy to welcome Lacey Kennett, Director of Communications for the Alliance for a Healthy Kansas, to Asbury on Thursday, February 29 at 7 pm in the MSR for a special talk about Medicaid expansion in Kansas.
Ms. Kennett will help us navigate what Medicaid expansion would look like and how it can help both save lives and ensure that our rural hospitals stay open and operational. All are welcome to attend this special event.
Coins for Lent – Outpouring of Love: A Lenten Activity for Everyone
In last week’s newsletter, we introduced our four youth who are participating in the Great Plains Conference Leadership Lab. These kids will be engaging in a web of relationships, resourcing, and experiences that culminate in eligibility for a pilgrimage to Greece where they will follow the Journeys of the Apostle Paul.
Let’s help with their trip cost by completing the “Coins for Lent Giving Calendar" (click here for link). Please contribute a dime or quarter for every item on the giving calendar. You may want to simply collect loose change and give whatever coins you have for each item. Deposit your weekly coin collection in the “Outpouring of Love” jar found in the Welcome Center. There you will also find paper copies of the calendar and related information. Our giving begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes with Holy Saturday. Have fun giving!!
Saving Grace: A Guide to Financial Well-Being

Money…is it good or is it bad? How do we, as people of faith, create healthy relationships with money and possessions?
Join us for a Lenten study of Saving Grace: A Guide to Financial Well-Being. This six-part study is based on Wesleyan values and helps you reach personal financial goals as well as address life concerns. Although written specifically for those who are part of the Methodist family, ANYONE can benefit from tried and true lessons in money management, rooted in a Wesleyan perspective.
This six-part study will take place on Thursday evenings (February 15-March 21) from 6:00-7:30 pm in the Parlor. A soup supper will be provided. The cost is $15 for the workbook and registration will end on February 13.

Lenten Faith and Film Study, The Sequel: Wednesdays from 11 am-12 pm, Beginning February 21*
Join Pastor Jeff on Wednesdays in the Parlor during Lent (Feb. 21 - Mar. 20), as we examine Director Martin Scorsese’s 2016 adaptation of Shūsaku Endō’s novel Silence.
We’ll look at scripture and other sources to better understand our own faith journey during these 40 days of Lent. *The first Wednesday we’ll watch the movie in its entirety (for those who can). The following Wednesdays, we’ll examine scenes and have discussion from 11:00 am to noon. A light soup luncheon will follow. Click here to sign up online, or call the church office at 913-432-5573!
