Our sympathy is extended to Leighann Prothro upon the passing of her cousin, Kathy.

KanCare Expansion Presentation: Thursday, Feb. 29 at 7:00 pm

Did you know that an estimated 150,000 Kansans fall into a health coverage gap? They earn too much to qualify for KanCare (the Kansas Medicaid program), but make too little to receive federal subsidies to buy private insurance.

As United Methodists, our call is to advocate for policies that promote access to health care, including mental health and addiction resources (United Methodist Social Principles, 162.V). In this spirit, our Church and Society team is happy to welcome Lacey Kennett, Director of Communications for the Alliance for a Healthy Kansas, to Asbury on Thursday, February 29 at 7 pm in the MSR for a special talk about Medicaid expansion in Kansas.

Ms. Kennett will help us navigate what Medicaid expansion would look like and how it can help both save lives and ensure that our rural hospitals stay open and operational. All are welcome to attend this special event.

Coins for Lent – Outpouring of Love: A Lenten Activity for Everyone

In last week’s newsletter, we introduced our four youth who are participating in the Great Plains Conference Leadership Lab. These kids will be engaging in a web of relationships, resourcing, and experiences that culminate in eligibility for a pilgrimage to Greece where they will follow the Journeys of the Apostle Paul.

Let’s help with their trip cost by completing the “Coins for Lent Giving Calendar" (click here for link). Please contribute a dime or quarter for every item on the giving calendar. You may want to simply collect loose change and give whatever coins you have for each item. Deposit your weekly coin collection in the “Outpouring of Love” jar found in the Welcome Center. There you will also find paper copies of the calendar and related information. Our giving begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes with Holy Saturday. Have fun giving!!

This six-part study is based on Wesleyan values and helps you reach personal financial goals as well as address life concerns. Although written specifically for those who are part of the Methodist family, ANYONE can benefit from tried and true lessons in money management, rooted in a Wesleyan perspective.
