MON JAN 13

Weekly Bible Study with Pastor Jeff. 10 am in Room 208. All are welcome to attend.

It's been quite the week of cleanup following our winter storm! It's a rather fitting allegory to the start of 2025 - there are a lot of "storms" happening locally and across the globe. As we think about what the year ahead may bring, what does it mean to be resolute in our faith, and to put our full faith and trust in God?

This weekend in worship, we will be focusing on Psalm 46 which helps provide an answer to that question. Pastor Jeff talks about this and more in his video this week. We hope that you can visit us on Sunday at 9 or 11 am!

Evening Care Cancelled for Thursday, January 9

Evening Care will be cancelled this evening due to the snow we're expecting in the area. Stay safe out there, friends!

Morning Meetup: Sunday, January 12 at 10 am

This new group is tailored to the needs of parents, and will meet weekly in Hager Hall at 10 am beginning THIS Sunday, January 12 with a mental health presentation.

The remaining weeks are meant for discussions with one another and community building. The group is structured, so you can jump right in when you are able to attend. Although the group will begin gathering at 10 am, you are free to join the conversation anytime between 10-11 am.

We plan to have speakers kick off our monthly topics for discussion. Our second "Speaker Sunday" is February 2 and the topic will be self-care/compassion. If you have questions, feel free to contact our Director of Family Ministries at heatherj@visitasbury.org.

The nursery will be available for children who have not started kindergarten. Elementary aged children can join Kids' Hour (3rd floor east) and youth (6-12 grade) can join Coffee and Convos in the Youth Lounge (3rd floor west).

Christmas Decorations Tear-Down: Sunday, January 12 at 12 pm

Please come and help take down and pack away Christmas decorations from the Sanctuary and church on Sunday, January 12 around noon (right after the 11 am service is over).

All ages are welcome, as there can be jobs for carriers, packers, and organizers! If you have any questions, please contact Rev. Daekyung Kim at daekyungk@visitasbury.org. Thank you!

Ladies Night Out Now "Women's Chat and Chill!"

We're making our former "Ladies Night Out" a lot simpler and more approachable for 2025, so we're giving it a new name and a new vibe!

Now "Women's Chat and Chill," we'd like to invite all ladies to join us on the third Sunday of each month from 6-8 pm in the Parlor for a time of chatting and connection. Bring your own coffee, smoothie, soda, brown-bag, take-out...or nothing at all! Bring a friend, and let's use this time to decompress from our hectic daily lives and support one another.

Questions? Contact Dawn Schnake at dawnschnake@gmail.com. We hope to see you on Sunday, January 19 at 6 pm!

Words Matter: Thursday, January 23

"Words Matter" is a discussion group that has been meeting since August to learn how we can be better allies to the LGBTQ community as we recognize that our words really do matter. We would like to invite more members of Asbury to join our conversation as we welcome guest speaker C.J. Janovy to discuss her book "No Place Like Home: Lessons in Activism from LGBT Kansas" on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:00 pm in the Parlor. C.J. Janovy is Director of Journalism at KCUR 89.3, Kansas City's NPR Station.

"A compelling, complex narrative of the interlocking lives and efforts of a small group of activists working for the seemingly impossible goal of a queer-friendly Kansas." - Kansas History

"This exquisitely written book captures the experiences and emotions of everyday activists [and] reveals how losses regarding pro-LGBT policies and protections 'in the long game, often built to victories.' A riveting, insightful love letter to Kansas's unsung LGBT heroes." - Choice

Fundraising Concert for Trip to Alaska - "Around the World through Music" Friday, January 17, 2025 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary

We’ll be holding a couple of fundraising events to help support The Church of the Nations, our mission partner in Anchorage, and the travel costs for our mission trip group visiting later this year. The first event will be a fundraising concert on Friday, January 17 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary, featuring Elizabeth Lane, violin, Lindsey Lang, soprano, and Pastor Daekyung Kim, piano.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to not only listen to the music and taste some desserts from around the world, but also help the ministry of The Church of the Nations, which has been reaching out to unhoused Alaska Natives and serving them since it was established in 2008. Suggested donations will be $20. You can also donate anytime via Easy Tithe by selecting "Alaska Missions Fund" from the drop-down menu. Thank you for your support and prayers!

Please RSVP to the concert by contacting the church at 913-432-5573 or emailing Phyllis Williams at phyllisw@visitasbury.org. Thank you!

  • Electronic Fund Transfer
  • Online through Easy Tithe
  • Text the word 'Give' to 913-774-6060

Leadership Lab

We are forming our next Leadership Lab cohort. In Leadership Lab, high school students engage in a web of relationships, resourcing, and experiences that culminate in eligibility for a triennial pilgrimage with other students, their mentors, and key conference leaders. Eligibility is determined by completing the Leadership Lab curriculum.

This discipleship and leadership program empowers young people to use their gifts both in the church and the world. Youth must be members of Asbury to participate. To register or to discuss the program, contact our Director of Family Ministries.
