Pastor Jeff will tell us some stories from the Bible involving wine and God's abundance, and we'll enjoy a wine tasting and learn about how wine is grown at the vineyard.

| | Further Discussion Regarding Kansas Supreme Court Amendment: Sunday, July 19 | |
Katy McClaughlin will join us again on Sunday, July 19 in the Parlor during the Sunday School hour starting at 10:00 am to continue the discussion of the August 4 Kansas Supreme Court ballot measure.
Katy will also be on hand to answer any questions we have about the proposed amendment. All are invited to attend!
| | July's Banned Book Club Reading is Last Night at the Telegraph Club | |
Our Banned Book Club read for July is Last Night at the Telegraph Club, a Young Adult novel by Malinda Lo.
It is a 2021 National Book Award winner that focuses on the experience of Lily Hu, a teenager growing up in 1950s San Francisco. The story navigates the racism experienced by Lily as a Chinese American, as well as Lily’s understanding of her own sexuality.
Lily learns about the titular Telegraph Club through an ad in the newspaper, and discovers a classmate of hers has been there. Over the next several months, Lily and Kath journey together in their relationship, while having to maintain a level of secrecy because of their orientation in the mid-20th century.
A study guide will follow in the next few weeks. I am about halfway through and am thoroughly enjoying it. - Pastor Jeff

Wednesday, July 15: Early in-person voting begins in 12 locations throughout Johnson County. Check with jocoelection.org for specific times and locations. For information on early in-person in all other counties, check with your county election office.
Tuesday, July 21: Preferred deadline for requesting an advance or vote-by-mail (VBM) ballot (official deadline is July 28, but this is risky!!) Beginning this year, all advance/VBM ballots must be received on Election Day.

Love, Serve, Lead!! That is the theme for this year's Youth Sunday, which will be held at both the 9 and 11 am services on Sunday, August 16. Youth will be leading worship and sharing about their experiences on their service trips, in Leadership Lab, and at Institute.
There will be a potluck brunch held at 10 am during the Sunday School hour in Hager Hall. All are welcome to join us!

Join us for the Asbury Children’s Center's annual Bids and BBQ Fundraiser! This event will be held on Friday, August 28 from 5:30-8:00 pm at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center.
Tickets are $50 (plus processing fee if purchased online) and include 3 BBQ meats, sides, drinks, beer and wine. Dinner starts at 6:00 pm and the live auction starts at 6:30 pm.
Tickets will also be on sale in the Welcome Center starting in August. We will have some fantastic items to bid on!! We can’t wait to see you there for fellowship and fun! There will also be an online silent auction running from August 23-30.
If you have any new items or services that you would like to donate, or would like to make a monetary contribution, please contact ACC Director Ann Porter at annp@visitasbury.org. All donations will go towards improvements at the ACC.

We need five volunteers to assist in the Lazarus Boutique. As a volunteer, you’ll act as a personal shopper, helping guests find clothing, hygiene items, linens, and other essential goods.

| | Back to School Supply Drive for Santa Fe Trail Students | |
Starting July 12, Asbury United Women in Faith (UWF) will be collecting new school supplies for students at Santa Fe Trail Elementary!
What to Bring: Check out the list of needed supplies at our table in the Welcome Center.
Drop-off Location: Look for the blue barrel labeled "School Supplies" to donate your items.
Prefer to donate monetarily? Checks can be made out to "Asbury UWF" with "school supplies" in the memo line. Every little bit helps our local students succeed!

From the Food Pantry Volunteers:
The Food Pantry volunteers are excited because we received a grant from the Asbury Endowment Fund to purchase new shelves for the food pantry area and a storage shelf for the Pantry storage room.
We had been using shelves we located during Covid. They served us well, but they were getting a little rickety. We are pleased to have more substantial shelves now, and a bonus is that the units are more appealing to the eye than our previous arrangements! We were able to consolidate two of our older shelf units in the storage area onto one new shelf. Now we don't have to worry that the shelf unit will buckle from the weight of our canned meats!
We are grateful to the Asbury Foundation Trustees for awarding this grant to us. It will help the appearance of Asbury's Food Pantry for our guests as well as make it look better for all of us. Thank you Asbury Foundation Trustees!
| | Youth Service Trips & Pilgrimages Fundraiser: 144 Envelopes | | |
There's a big board with 144 envelopes attached to it on the wall by the west entrance of the Sanctuary, representing monetary amounts from $1-$144 ($10,441 in all). If all the envelopes are selected, returned, and donations match the amount on each envelope, we will meet our fundraising goals for both the service trips, along with some money to put toward the 2027 Pilgrimages!
Here's how the fundraiser works:
• You decide the amount you would like to give to support the youth service trips and Leadership Lab Pilgrimages to Turkey to follow Paul's travels.
• Select the corresponding envelope(s). For example, if you want to give $50 select envelope #50, or if 50 is no longer available, select envelopes that equal $50.
• Fill out the little card inside the envelope.
• Return the card, your donation, and the envelope to the church. It can be given to Phyllis at the front desk or placed in the offering plate or drop box outside of the finance office.

| | | Family Ministries Days at the K: Tuesday, August 4 | | |
There are just a few tickets remaining for our August 4 Day at the K (also Dollar Dog Night) at 6:20 pm and tickets cost $29 each.
If you are wanting tickets, please contact Heather Jackson, Director of Family Ministries, ASAP (HeatherJ@visitasbury.org), so that we do not exceed our allotted tickets. Payment can be made through the church office or online via Easy Tithe (select "Other Fund" from the drop-down menu and type "Royals tickets" in the notes line). Tickets will be distributed electronically via the Ballpark app closer to game day.
We will carpool from the church and take both Asbury buses to the game. Depending on how the numbers come out, we might need a few extra drivers. The tickets are available to youth, kids (accompanied by an adult), their families and friends.

All parents and other adults are invited to our next book club on Tuesday, August 25 at 7 pm in the Prayer Room. We will be discussing our summer read, Dancing in the Darkness: Spiritual Lessons for Thriving in Turbulent Times, by Otis Moss III.

We know the start of the school year can be filled with many different emotions, and we want to help all our young people and teachers start the year off great!

Elementary aged children will learn about the scripture lesson from worship in a hands-on and age-appropriate way. We'll begin at 10:30 am, join worship at 11 am, participate in the children's time, and then return upstairs to continue our hands-on activities.

11 am: The Nursery is open for children aged infant through 5-years-old (if they haven’t started Kindergarten yet). Children who have started Kindergarten are encouraged to join Children's Church.

Kids PreK - 3rd grade are welcome to join us for Children's Church after the Children's Moment at the 11 am service in the kids' wing (3rd floor east).
We might make a craft, play a game, watch a movie, or learn a new song and dance. No matter the activity, kids will have fun learning and growing together!

All PreK-5th grade children are invited to participate in our Sunday, September 27 Kids' Sing. We will be singing a song from our Snowball Mountain Challenge VBS. Rehearsals will be Sunday, September 13 and Sunday, September 20 following the children's time at the 11 am service. Kids will be dismissed from service to rehearse with Ms. Alicia Wolff.

Youth will share about their experiences on the service trips, in Leadership Lab, and at Institute. There will be a brunch for all at 10 am during the Sunday School hour in Hager Hall.
Youth can play something, read something, usher, greet, help with the children's time, or something else. If you/your youth would like to participate, please let Heather Jackson know ASAP. We will begin planning during youth group at 6 pm this Sunday.
