Many friends and parishioners in the LGBTQIA+ community have been expressing worry, fear and anxiety about an incoming President and the administration that will unfold over the next four years. I hear that fear and anxiety, particularly in the area of marriage.
Many committed couples have been working their way toward taking that step in their relationship and now are uncertain whether same-gender marriage will still be legal, uncertain whether the legality of marriage will hold through the next four years. To that end, I want to remind folks that Asbury First United Methodist Church is a welcoming community. We have made the decision to officiate at weddings of committed couples, no matter what their gender expression or sexual orientation. If you know someone or are someone who is reaching that point in your relationship and wants to make a committed marriage vow, we're here for you. We're here for your friends, your children, your cousins, your uncles, your aunts. We are here and able and willing to officiate at those ceremonies.
Anyone can contact the office here at Asbury First any time to talk about setting up a ceremony. I would be honored and delighted to walk in that with you, because in the Christian tradition, love always wins.
