July 15, 2021

At The Movies is a fun summer series where we show movie clips from popular current films of this past year along with a message that connects popular movies with scripture. You probably don't usually look to movies for life lessons, but take our word for it: sit back, relax, and hear a different perspective on how popular films can point us toward the gospel.

Join us as we continue a 4-week sermon series, At the Movies, this Sunday with a message based around the events in Wonder Woman 1984.

About Wonder Woman 1984: this movie takes Diana Prince, also known as Wonder Woman, from World War I to 1984. In 1984, a power-obsessed con man gets his hands on a magical artifact from Ancient Rome that makes a person's biggest wish come true. The wishes always come with a price, however. The con man's use of this magical power threatens to destroy the world. Wonder Woman must find a way to stop him. However, she accidentally used the artifact to bring back her one true love. As a result, Wonder Woman's super powers are getting weaker and weaker. So, Wonder Woman must choose between Steve and saving the world.

Haven't seen Wonder Woman 1984 yet? Pastor Eric recommends checking it out before this week's message!

For these services:
  • Registration is not required
  • Masks are not required for those who have been vaccinated
  • We are still following social distancing guidelines (6 feet of distance between you and those outside of your family pod)
  • For those who have been vaccinated, congregational singing is permitted
  • Park and enter on either level. A construction project will impact the elevator and center staircase beginning next Sunday (July 25). For that Sunday, please plan where you park and enter based on your ability to use stairs and if you're able to walk from the lower-level doors to the staircase at the far end of the hallway; and save upper-level spots for those with limited mobility.

Resources for Worship

Volunteers Needed for Salem Food Pantry
As part of our merger with Salem UMC, we are part of ensuring the continued success of the vital center-city ministry they began to provide a food pantry for those in need. But your help is needed!

The Salem Food Pantry is an Allentown food ministry providing fresh, locally grown, foods for people in need. Volunteers assist at the pantry on the first and third Fridays and Saturdays of each month. Fridays are preparation days, when food is unloaded, bagged, and readied; and Saturdays are when the pantry is open for foods to be picked up. The pantry needs 4-5 volunteers for each day. Able to help? Contact Lissette Lopez (484-860-4729) or Pastor Ruth Garay (484-744-4603).

In August, we will be holding our first in-person Adult Inquirers class. Contact Laurie Wallace Theisen to RSVP or for more information. Dates TBA.
